just kidding ;)

If any of your goons are out in the Arbor Creek area and want a pelting of paintballs on a summer Saturday night, just head on over and I'll see what I can do. :D haha

Maybe things are different in Canada, but in the USA you are risking legal action by shooting them with paintballs.

Even if you only hit them in the chest, you are looking at a legal battle insuing.

The kids/families could say they were just walking there when you opened fire on them.

Good luck, if you follow that route.

Bushes would be the best idea out of the ones I've seen here. Paintball action could get you in trouble... I don't think you're THAT good of a shot that you can be sure you wouldn't hit them in the head or something... just image that, you take out some kid's eye accidently and get stuck with a half million dollar lawsuit because you wanted to protect your fence.
Bushes are the only thing I can see being totally innocent on your part.

I suppose it wouldn't exactly be the best way to move into a new neighborhood by shooting up all the little kids with paint whenever they come near the fence, eh? :D
I just want something high, private and clean, but I guess the bushes are my safest and simplest-to-set-up bet.

I like the bushes idea, but the cheapest, most cost/labor effective would be a motion operated light. Just put it on a post behind the fence in your yard. Let's face it, if someone really wanted to spraypaint your fence, nothing would stop them. The goal is to deter the ones who can't make up their mind.

When you say "public walkway", are you meaning a sidewalk? WHat makes you think your fence will get painted? Are there other fences in town like yours that are defaced?

Ya, a sidewalk between our houses.
Mine is on the left.

For some reason, our city has an unusually high amount of graffiti vandalism. Or maybe they just like to target the fences/walls that are out in the open for everyone to see. I could probably even live with something creative and colorful, but not those stupid swastikas and devil stars.
Maybe I'm just paranoid because it's my brand new house, and I want to keep it nice at least for one whole year.

Either build an impregnable monolith wall and forget about the outside world or get some pitbulls.

Dude, your house doesn't even have a roof!!!

:p

I guess you could just light the walkway up some.

Are there any farms nearby?

A forestry farm/zoo. Man, when the wind comes in from the north, whew!
I used to be a farmboy, so I'm trying to get as far from a farm as possible. This house is on the outskirts, but no farms real close.

Agreed, even if they completely destroyed your wall, you may find yourself in the worst situation. Stupid laws protecting criminals around here.

There is graffiti "resistant" paint. I think you can hose the graffiti off with water. It is probably expensive. If you are really worried about it then you should research it.

Get a motion detector like you'd use for a nighttime proximity light. IE it is only triggered at a certain darkness level (or on a timer), and only triggered by motion close to the fence.

When it activates, hook it up to some high powered lawn sprinklers - but aim them sideways, from one end of the fence to the other.

That way, you (probably) wouldn't hit anyone on the sidewalk...but anyone getting close to the fence would get it. Side effect, you could just point them AT the fence, so that the fence would automatically be washed off. :)

The more I think about this, the better an idea it is. I have motion detector lights in my backyard, but motion detector sprinklers would be 100 times more effective at deterring people. I'm pretty sure I could rig it up so that when I'm home, the lights come on with motion. But when I'm away/on vacation, I could flip a switch and have it activate the sprinkler system instead. HMMMM. Added benefit, I dunno if you've ever been walking around at night when someone's sprinklers fire up, but the noise can scare the hell out of you if you're not expecting it.
