Are there any other good downloading programs besides Torrents, Limewire and Kazaa? For some reason my Limewire refuse's to connect to anything, and kazaa I just hate =) Thanks

Well in all honesty these programs aren't illegal in their own right, you can just do illegal stuff with them.

Anyway I used to like bearshare but it's recently been so ad dependent that I can't stand it.

I've been using Firefox for most of the my downloads; I haven't used a download manager since I was on dialup. Filezilla is another application which provides excellent FTP support.

I second IRC and Newsgroups.

One honorable mention could go, IMHO to the eMule network. In fact I found the Medieval II Demo from that network and downloaded at 500kb/s or so, quite constantly whilst on other known web-sites I'd download it at 100kb/s or so (maybe they were just busy though).

Bittorrent for large files and Sharaza for music and small files.

Anyone know of a good way to find stuff on IRC and newsgroups?

P2P programs have many legitimate uses. I download IPTV shows with BitTorrent all the time.

There is tons of legal material on p2p network, but just like the internet there is plenty of illegal content.

I like buying my CDs in records stores, personally.
what's a record store?
You find them out in the real world. They tend to offer much higher quality music than what you find online, along with album art, a physical backup and generally no or easy-to-evade drm. Selection sucks though, and it requires you to go outside, unless you happen to live in a mall.

Why? P2P is Legal in the United States of America last time that I checked. There are plenty of legal uses for this type of thing.

I am trying to find alternative ways to distribute my bands music, which is perfectly legal. If I asked "Hey where can I download Metallica?" then yeah, lock away.
