Better performance in HL2 than Farcry, why?

My gaming rig in my signature seems to run better in HL2 than farcry and I'm not sure why. Isn't farcry an older game than HL2? The only thing I can think of is the fact that it appears that farcry is optimized for Nvidia cards while HL2 is optimized for ati cards...

HL2 is less demanding the Far Cry's mainly because it doesn't have the same level of eye candy.

Yep, HL2 generally runs better than Far Cry. I think it has mostly to do with the fact that HL2 is optomised quite well and will run even on low spec PC's.
