I'm in the market for a new processor and I was wondering which one would overclock better:
3000+ Venice
or
3200+ Venice

I've heard that they overclock to about the same, but the 3200+ is better because it has a higher mulitplier. Or is it just that the 3200+ is "easier" to overclock than the 3000+? (because of multiplier)

Only reason you'd need the 3200+ is if you have a poor OCing mobo. (One that can't handle high HTT speeds).

Or if you are hardcore & want to hit 3000MHz with your exotic cooling.

Otherwise, get a good mobo (there are a ton of great nForce4-based ones out there), & the 3000+.

Or better yet, an X2 3800+ ;)

Yep but the 3200 is only like $10 more at Ewiz...worth it IMHO.

Heatsink/Fan:..........Stock HSF (XP-90 with 92mm panaflo later on)
Ram:........................OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 (2x512mb)
Video Card:..............ATI RADEON X800 XL PCI-E 256MB OR eVGA 7800GT PCI-E (if money will allow)
Power Supply:..........Antec SP-500 (Smart Power 2.0) 500W
Fans........................5 Panaflos
DVD Burner...............LG GSA-4160B
Hard Drives:.............250GB Western Digital PATA

X2 3800 all the way. It can OC to 2.4ghz easy on stock cooling and even higher with something like Zalmans cu fan (2.6ghz if your lucky).

I'd like to Dual Core but my budget is stretched as it is.

Just to reiterate.

You're on a tight budget; therefore the choice is obvious :)

Though for $10 more (if that's all it is), might as well go for the 3200+.

Alright thanks....looks like I'll be going with the 3200+. How far are people overclocking this baby to nowadays? Can you still reach 2.7ghz on air?
