You should try the trader joes chocolate premium ice cream. I guess that goes against your rules but I dont find it to be so expensive.

I love premium ice cream though and like a little place in Brentwood called sweet rose creamery.

http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/

unfortunately its kinda expensive

Oh, I fully intend to, believe me, but only when some other errand takes me by my nearest Trader Joes.

The thing about the trader joes stuff is they havent whipped air into the ice cream.

One of the greatest marketing moments was when some ceo said "hey lets whip air into the ice cream and call it creamy"

edit

The vanilla is really good too.

Yeah, it's made Breyers something you never want to touch if it ever melts a bit and then re-freezes.

I haven't had non premium ice cream in a long time. I seldom buy it, so I usually stick with Ben and Jerrys. Coffee Heath Bar Crunch is tits.

Anyway, to the point... I seem to remember Turkey Hill getting that nasty gummy funk on the side of the container(carrageenan?). That has always been the hallmark of cheap ice cream. It also seems especially whipped. You get extra air for your money :^P

I haven't had Breyers in ages, so I can't comment.

I want to get into making my own as well. Does that Cuisinart work well? I would end up making some exotic stuff and need a ice cream maker that can handle it.

That looks like softserve anyhow, do you own that or did you just grab the pic?

WTF, those are premium brands to me. What the hell do you consider premium?

Wow, yet another topic on which you reveal yourself as impossibly ignorant and likely destined to stay that way.

the one we have is the big sucker in a bucket. 5 gallon bucket, makes about 1.5-2 gallons of ice cream. motorized crank.

Your answer is in the OP, oh wise one.
2 for 3.89
:D

Breyers regularly goes on sale here at 2/$5. But it has deteriorated in quality over the years. So, when in the other thread I saw Turkey Hill rated so highly, and with this particular sale as the trigger, I thought I'd give it a try.

I was looking for those who've had both and could give me their informed opinion. There was a time when you could rely on OT for that. I forget who was President then, but there was a time . . .

ftfy

btw..

Premium ice cream tends to have low overrun and higher fat content than standard ice cream.
Overrun refers to the increase in product volume created when a given volume of ice cream mix is aerated during processing.

Turkey Hill has some premium flavors... but unless you see PREMIUM on the container.. its not

every try Edy's perknose?

I believe I've had both their chocolate and their vanilla and wasn't all that partial to either. It's certainly been awhile, though. Breyers used to be CLEARLY superior (imho) to the other non-premuims. That has changed somewhat, and may have changed a lot, so it may be time for me to find out.

Baby steps, though.

One's choice in non-premium cartons of industrially produced ice cream product is serious business. ;)
