Of those two, Turkey Hill has been my preference.

My brand preference is split between Turkey Hill or Edys, and was usually dictated by whichever one was on sale.

Turkey Hill's Black Cherry = delicious frozen heroin.

Then at some point, my digestive system decided that conventional (pasteurized/homogenized) dairy products were made by Satan. :(
I guess it's for the best...my metabolism finally slowed up sometime in my mid to late 20s.

btw... Blue Bunny is the best Premium Ice Cream

Very good, but no; not the best.

And I've had Blue Bunny from the source.

I've never had Turkey Hill, but I do like Breyers. It's a good second choice to Haagen Dazs.

OK - what makes an ice-cream premium? I thought you guys were going just by brands or something.

i already posted the info, moron.

Premium ice cream tends to have low overrun and higher fat content than standard ice cream.

Overrun refers to the increase in product volume created when a given volume of ice cream mix is aerated during processing.

Are those the only two choices? If they are then Turkey Hill narrowly over Breyer's. But Friendly's is way better than Turkey Hill. And if you like really strong, rich chocolate flavor go for Blue Bunny Chocolate Champion. It's the most chocolatey ice cream I've ever tried in the near-premium category and it would give Dove a run for its money at about 1/4 the price.

No Turkey Hill, no Blue Bunny, no Friendly's around here. (I remember Friendly's 28 flavors from when I was a kid growing up in Mass.)

My favorite "chocolate" ice cream is Dryer's Rocky Road.

We don't have Blue Bunny (that I know of) in my area, but I'll be sure to keep it in mind, as I love good dark chocolate anything.

As a native Philadelphian who moved away, I will answer your question thusly:

I just moved to a location that sells Turkey Hill and Breyers, after living in a place for 6 years that didn't. I still haven't bought any Breyers, but I was excited as hell to see Turkey Hill and immediately bought some. And it did not disappoint.

So I'll take TH, based on the deprivation test.

Breyers regularly goes on sale here at 2/$5. But it has deteriorated in quality over the years. So, when in the other thread I saw Turkey Hill rated so highly, and with this particular sale as the trigger, I thought I'd give it a try.

I was looking for those who've had both and could give me their informed opinion. There was a time when you could rely on OT for that. I forget who was President then, but there was a time . . .
I'm sorry, I should have been much more direct. Get one of each and have some friends over for taste testing. FTW!

Perk, do you have a Kroger's chain near you? Their house brand "private select" stuff is quite simply the best ice cream I have ever bought from a grocery store. Period. No questions asked. End of story.

Then if you're got Friendly's available skip the Turkey Hill and go with Friendly's Forbidden Chocolate. It's a darker, stronger chocolate than the regular Chocolate, kind of halfway between milk and semi-sweet.

Sorry, but if I am putting that much fat and sugar in my system, it's gotta be Haagen Daz.

What's to stop shady makers to put the word premium on their packaging? Also, is Haagan Daaz considered premium? If I had to think of "premium," they'd come first in my head.
