are there any free mods for morrowind that make all or most of the textures high res or high poly or something to make the graphics more up to date?

I just used my free FilePlanet membership to download the "better bodies" mod. There was no wait queue on the free public servers.

Better bodies, Better Heads are the obvious 2. Maybe if you poke around the site a little you'll find more.

Some apparently include installers, others you must unzip into the data dir.

I haven't done this myself, you just got me thinking I should reinstall Morrowind and finish it up, and that I might as well make it look better too :)

Once you have money, the mage guild teleports make travel a lot easier (along with the silt strider).

Also, foot travel can be worthwhile if you carry a supply of the smaller soul gems and do some soul-hunting.

I just re-installed last week. Here is my list. Went with mods that only updated the look of things. I didn't want gameplay changing mods (except for the official plugins, so the 8 official plugins plus).

1. Morrowind Visual Pack (much better textures) http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=4806
2. Changing Faces NPC Replacer http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=4658
3. Changing Faces Add-On
http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=4877
4. Better Boddies v2.2 http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=3368
5. Cait's Critters Unleashed http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=1649
6. ModMan's Windowlights http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=1814
7. Latern Replacer http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=5130
8. Real Signposts http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/modcontrols/mod.asp?modid=81

Of course double check all the readme files. A couple (Windowlights) requires you to change a couple entries in the .ini file to make things work right or tweak them (Windowlights you change to Quadratic lighting and tweak the value of intesity there.

walking w/ slow speed is a major PITA. I would find the Boots of Blinding Speed ASAP (from a miniquest that someone gives you. Google for more info). Those boots made my life significantly easier, and I think I kept them the entire game.

thanks for that list. i need stuff w/ installers or w/ detailed instructions on how to make them work as i have no idea how to do this stuff. i was lucky to get custom modles to work on CSS.

I'd like to see a game like morrowind where there is no story or pre generated quests. Everything (npc's, guilds, etc) would just be control by the AI, so the guilds would automatically generate quests based on what they need done. Hopefully oblivion will move more in this direction.

Interesting, no end game just an evolving world state.

The problem I see is that to stay interesting the quests need to get bigger, which would probably destabilize the world. For example you eventually wipe out entire guilds or houses, eventually the towns are empty with one faction left.

Having a scripted main quest lets a designer give you the bigger-and-better in a predictable way without having the world collapse too soon. But your way could be fun too.

i like the idea. it seems like it would be hard to pull off and keep the game balanced but is a neat concept. with a game like that what would keep me wanting to play? i mean ya some games you play just because they are fun but i could see something like that getting old kinda like grand theft auto style old. where all thats left to do is drive around killing hookers.

I don't necessarily mean it will go on forever. There could still be a big supervillian and the game world could be set up so that that game would most likely pan out a certain way.

I just don't feal any satisfaction from completing a pre generated quest. I just feel like an errand boy. If that quest i completed for the fighters guild really helped them and made them more powerful in a dynamically simulated world, i'd feal a lot better about it.
