OK my thunderbolt uses an onscreen keyboard for typing out texts and entering stuff.....the problem is I have huge hands, and need a keyboard with a bit more space between the keys. My message right now look something like this:

Iwrtsld j3st wwte eat how2m p2w

When it should say:

I would just wait at home for now

anyone else have this issue and find a better keyboard for big hands?

I use Swype, where you slide your finger across the screen instead of tapping each individual letter.

But it also helps to just learn how to use the autocomplete function of the keyboard better. The Android keyboard already has a prediction feature that expands the virtual target area for the keys you are most likely to hit next.

For a keyboard that has a more aggressive prediction feature, try one called SwiftKey.

Other than that, try using it in landscape mode if you aren't already.

I love better keyboard (8 ?) I have fat fingers and type fast and the original KBs on all my android phones just sucked for me. I dont really dig swype and I find Better Keyboard to work perfectly for me and it keeps up with my fast typing and the dictionary and spellcheck options are highly modifiable.

I prefer Swiftkey. The autocomplete is unreal at predicting what your going to type next. I can get whole sentences with just tapping the auto suggestion.

swype. if it goes out of beta and they want 100 bucks for it, id be tempted to pay it.

id *love* to have it on my nook color, and id like it just the size it is on my phone, so i could quickly single-finger type everything. itd be sweet.

odd, just searched for Swype and it's not in the android marketplace...guess I'll try the SwiftKey X Beta and see how well that works. Exciting!

You have to sign up for the beta on their site, and if you're lucky you'll get the download. But if you google around you'll be able to find people hosting the apk elsewhere that you can use.

Maybe Thumb Keyboard? It is made for thumbs so it should work with big fingers. Its my current go-to.

Swiftkey. I try others but I keep going back. The new Swype version is nice but it's still buggy.

GODDAMNIT. Trying swiftkey it's no better. I may have to return this phone. I'm probably at about 30% accuracy on texting. I tried typing out "I'm having trouble texting with the on screen keyboard. "

I got

Im havard trouble text the the with the one screen key bit. SO pissed off right now. I should've waited for the droid 3 with the keyboard, but I didn't want to get fucked by Verizon's limits. Now I'm stuck with a phone I can't text or type on in any way shape or form for the next 2 years. God-f*cking-DAMNIT.

is this your first non-keyboard phone? if it is, i think you're raging a bit too early. swiftkey LEARNS you method of typing. it's not going to be spot on the first time you use it.

Yep. Practice it for a bit, don't get pissed off about it so soon.

Also, try swype beta.

Weird. I only had to hit about 5 or 6 letters to get that sentence, the prediction kicked in for the rest of it.

yeah I was pretty tired last night so I was extra ragey.....I'm obviously not returning a phone over an inability to send LOLtexts to people.

No worries.

Try using it in landscape as someone suggested earlier as well, that will make your keys a lot bigger.

the gingerbread keyboard isnt bad at all -_- imean the prediction and correct could still be better like iOS-like but it's already solid in that it has multitouch. i just wish someone updated HTC_IME to have multitouch. that was one of the best user modded keyboards.

reiteration: swype beta. get it. i wouldnt have kept a touch screen phone, either, if it werent for that. touch typing on these things is evil, swyping is really nice once you use it for an hour or two.

Swype is pretty good my only problem with the new version is the vibrate part isn't working on my phone.

Edit: NM a uninstall and reinstall fixed that.
