better handling: Prelude or Impreza?

Impreza and Prelude comparo favors the SUB. AWD will out-handle the majority of front or real wheel drive cars. Plus, the average schmoe can drive an AWD hard w/o getting into trouble.

I never really understood the whole great thing about vtec, I even did a b18c1 swap into my integra and was unimpressed by the hype about the engine. It seemed like there was someone pushing on the back of the car when it did the change over, and made twice the noise. Looking back I wish I had just replaced the stock engine and added a supercharger instead.
 
To be fair, you did post the correct answer, even if your reasoning was flawed.

Why would AWD make any difference at all? Unless you are rallying or driving in the snow AWD isn't going to make the Impreza handle any better than the Prelude. Neither car makes so much power that AWD is necessary for putting that power down.

Personally it was a huge improvement when I swapped an H22 into my Accord. Now, looking back it was a stupid way to blow money but it sure was fun at the time.
 
Difference is minimal and driver skill and balls will play a MUCH bigger role than the car.

Prelude SH was one of the best FWD handling cars ever made....

Imprezas are pretty heavey with AWD.......

Same driver, I would probably put my money on Prelude.

Theoretically it should make for more neutral handling car but Subarus understeer just as much as FWD cars from the factory....but I suppose that's done by design.

It also helps when powering out of a corner; put the power down sooner without causing over/under steer.

Nearly all cars understeer from the factory and yes, it is by design.

You aren't going to cause oversteer on a FWD car powering out of a corner and the Impreza isn't powerful enough to get into enough trouble on dry pavement to make AWD beneficial in any way. The fastest way around a corner isn't by sliding the car sideways.

I can see AWD being an advantage just getting the power down (or breaking transmissions) in a car like the GTR or a Lamborghini that is pumping out 560hp or even an STi but a 2001 Impreza? My Camry Hybrid makes more power.

For my commute I'd buy it again in a second. Best car EVER for commuting. :biggrin:

How are things in Literbike these days? I was thinking of you the other day when I cracked open the latest issue of motorcyclist and they used the term literbike to describe a 1000cc Japanese sportbike. 😛

Yet the 2001 WRX (due to the necro nature of this thread) is lighter than the 5th-gen Prelude?

Not saying the Prelude is a 'bad' car (its not) but a GG/GD is just a better car all-around. More power, MUCH more torque, AWD, etc. Prelude was a great 90s car, but was outclassed as we got into the 2000s.
