I'm curious, does the AWD impreza handle better than the Honda Prelude?

Of course there are many many factors in this, g-load in turns, acceleration out of a turn, slalom (sp?), overstear understear characteristics.

gosh, my head hurts just thinking about it, does anyone have a clue?

Having driven neither of these vehicles, I would imagine that an Impreza would handle much better because of AWD. I dont think that Honda's are really known for their superior handling.

Impreza's are awesome. I'm pretty sure it would absolutley kill the Prelude.

Subjectively, I know the Prelude SH has awesome handling. I had one so I know. I used to own a Subaru too but not the Imprezza so I don't know. I assume you are talking about the WRX and not a stock Imprezza because the Prelude would own a stock Imprezza.

well I'm talking about the Imprezza 2.5RS Coupe, so not exactly stock, yet not exactly the WRX (as the WRX has turbo and the 2.5RS does not).

But what I wish to know is the handling only, not the 0-60 times or anything like that. The Prelude has 35 horses over the 2.5RS.

The Prelude SH has ATTS which makes it a very good handling car with no understeer. In this month's C&D, they review the Imprezza WRX and I remember reading it has moderate understeer. I don't remember offhand what the skid rating was though but I'd prefer a car with neutral handling to one with moderate understeer.

I beg your pardon dawg "The Imprezza 2.5 RS is attracting a new breed of loyalist into the Subaru camp: the automotive enthusiast. Although slightly less conservative than the traditional Subaru owner, the new faithful will hold the Subaru banner up high and proud. And why shouldn't they. With the Imprezza RS being the basis for the worlds best rally car, they've got a lot to be proud about."

that is a quote taken from automobile.com who did a review on it. If you think they as well might be mistaken...

they are...

son of a b1tch....

there are so many sites out there with the wrong bloody name...

lol

good catch dawg :)

Hey, I'm not busting the Subaru. I used to own one myself. I think the AWD is awesome and it's a great rally car. I just like the quality of Honda's better. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't rally cars designed to lose traction but still be very easy to handle in a skid? I wouldn't want that kind of handling on a street car.

Hahaha. That post was funny as hell. I was like... "Oooooh yeah. I'm about open up a can (link to SUBARU.COM) and then I saw that you found it. Hehe. All ready to do battle and stuff. :)

Arg stop spelling it with 2 Zs!!!! Its IMPREZA :)

I've driven both and I can honestly say that the 2.5 feels tigher, but its lackluster performance otherwise leaves much to be desired.

Impreza and Prelude comparo favors the SUB. AWD will out-handle the majority of front or real wheel drive cars. Plus, the average schmoe can drive an AWD hard w/o getting into trouble.

All depends on how you drive... If you get used to one platform, it will drive better for you. and for regular street driving or even moderate freeway speeding... you'll never really need any exotic handling and traction anyway...

Yeah, they are two completely different kinds of cars. I don't really think you can make a fair comparison. It's kind of like rally car vs. race car.

Both cars rock... I love Honda's but for practicality purposes, I would choose the Impreza if I had to buy one (WRX only...) although the American WRX pales in comparison to the Jap spec one, it's still a damn good car for the price. In real world conditions, the AWD would kick the Prelude's FWD all over the place in rain and snow. So in all around conditions, I would give the win to Subaru.

And for the dude who said Honda's aren't known for their handling characteristics... good god, what world do you live in? You ever heard of the Honda/Acura NSX? And every car in the lineup has damn good handling...

if you hit either of these two cards limits on the street, your going waaaaay to fast...
my friend had the prelude sh... amazing little thing....
and than one day, he almost drove it off the DVP here in toronto during a thunderstorm..
for those of you don't know, its probaly like 40 feet down, or more in some places if you go over the gaurd rail...

point is, both cars rock, but save it for the track...

and i like the prelude... its just an overall nicer feel...
and theres SOOOOO many mods for it...

I'm about to buy one of these cars, I'm looking at 01 prelude with 164,000 miles, or a 02 Subaru Impreza wagon. The pre has the h22 vtec, 5spd, all original, Subaru has 184,000 2.2 boxer, 5spd. Which would you all choose? over all the prelude is in better condition overall, but i cant decide which im wanting to get
