Better Graphics

u can still have an opinion as to which looks better even if both use the same engine...
and i think tribes needs a better comp to run since it's min req is 9.0c whereas ut is 8.1

not always true. HL2 looks leaps and bounds better than Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. Same engine.

That means nothing.
It could be to do with sound requirements, or something else.
And there was at once stage a DX9 render for UT2k4, which was later taken out.
Plus, the Unreal engine will also run in OpenGL, so DX would then have nothing to do with the graphics engine.

Oh, and Call Of Duty uses the Quake 3 engine, so does Quake 3. Just because it's the same engine doesn't mean they look the same. I haven't seen Tribes: V yet though, but UT2k4 is nice graphically.

Both are very good graphically but since you're not going to be able to run each at max resolution (or near max) so it's almost a moot point. BTW, you need to upgrade that video card (if you can).....my system is similar to yours and upgrading from a 9800PRO to a 6800nu was a huge difference.

i can run it at 1280x1024 with ultra settings for everything, 2T3 aa and still get 59 fps...
and running at max res can improve graphics, switching 2 1280x1024 from 1024 x 768 made a huge difference for me...

never played tribes, but i play UT2004. i have a pretty beefy system and the game bogs it down sometimes, although it runs very smoothly

oh and the graphics are excellent, some maps are better than others though

Tribes looks a little better IMHO. They use the same engine so they're both close, but the Tribes map look a little better, could be the textures.

Yeah I agree with this. Both are good.

I believe you can use DX9 rendering in UT 2004. I had to copy this D3D9Drv.dll to my UT dir and edit an .ini file to enable it. Now whether or not it is any better now, I can't tell the difference.
