I have a V5500 AGP right now and I am thinking of getting a Kyro2 64MB. Decent upgrade? Worthwhile? I play mostly D3D flight sims and some OpenGL games. I would appreciate any thoughts.

TBird 1.2 Ghz

MSK K7T Pro 2A

384MB RAM

Thanks!

Yeah... the Kryo 2 is a sweet card for the price. Well worth the $110 price tag, and it's not nVidia.... Not that I dislike nVidia, I just like to support the underdog. ;)

I'd say the Kyro II is better... And it will only get better over time. As games get more and more complex, Nvidia's brute force method will get worse and worse.

Ask Noriaki!;) Overall if you go to several forums and catch the comments, looks like people are begining to lean back toward V5 or Radeon 64 DDR over the Kyro II!;) But don't let me sway you......go read for yourself!;)

Don't do it. I have a 1.33GHz t-bird, had a V5 and went to a Kyro II. not worth it unless you're paying $20 for the Kyro II like I did. (sold the V5, thus off-setting the cost).

I am still awaiting data on Kyro II compatibility and speed.
I'll keep a V5 as my main card until it won't do the business with newer games and something sensibly priced will.

Yea but i'm at the point where i played the eRacer demo and the MBTR demo and the games have some texture anomalies but mostly in eRacer itself. So by the time those games drop i think it will be time to get rid of the V5 and call it year(No more driver support equals no more new games unless i want to play q2 all my life). I'd hate to give my card up but fkcu it eh :)

Well at first I was thinking it was a no-brainer, but a lot of you seem to have reservations. I will have to do some more research I guess.

Keep your opinions coming though

Thanks

i would get it, it hangs with th GTS 32 and 64 pretty close.. plus.. its as cheap as an MX.. noraki said he got 65 FPS in Q3 all settings maxed.. thats pretty good.. but my overclocked my gets 61.3 and that all settings maxed on the same res. it may not be the best card out.. but the kyro 2 is still decent for its price...

I heard there drivers are "MP AWARE" similar to nvidia's so you can use it in a SMP system, this where my eye lit up. :) I wanna see the frame rate in q3 but i just don't play that game to even care about the benchies.

Well, the more I am thinking of it, I think I might just sit tight for another 6 months or so and wait for GF3s to come down a bit (I have a hard time talking the wife into letting me spend $600 CDN on a vid card ;) )

I think I will take a wait and see atitude with it....
