Better Call Saul TV Series

After constant badgering asking nicely, I relented and watched the first 11 episodes. Frankly I don't understand the popularity of the program. The main character Jimmy just annoys the fvck out of me and I have not liked a single episode thus far. The side story involving Mike was OK but they only did flash backs on it.

Is it because I never watched "Breaking Bad" that I don't get it?

I have seen breaking bad and although at the beginning it seems bad and i stopped watching after 3 episodes it does get good. I started watching again and i am glad i did. I finished the series up till season 5 on netflix.
Because of watching breaking bad, i also started with better call Saul. But here i have the same thing. At the moment i am just not in the mood for better call Saul. If it is still on netflix in the autumn, i definitely going to give it another try.

They opened the door on that a little. The cold opening they did with Saul telling the shoplifting kid not to say anything to the cops shows that maybe he's not entirely done with the law yet. The Cinnabon timeline is unlikely to stand alone though. If that ever gets traction they'll use it like they're using it now, for 5 minute sequences here or there.

But I think you're way off on your timeline guesstimates. The Breaking Bad series was 5 seasons (or 6 depending how you count) compressed into 2 years of real time. It covered Walt's 50th birthday to his 52nd, that much was made very clear. It supposedly ran September 2008 to September 2010 although there were a couple of parts where they fudged on the months.

The BCS timeline is still fuzzy, but season 1 was definitively set in summer 2002 and only spanned 3 or 4 months of real time. No matter how you do the math, they're not any later than 2004 now which means there are still 4 years of real time before the events of BB start seeping into the BCS story.

It was overall a very weak episode, but one interesting thing happened. The bit with Nacho and Hector at the end changed my view of the Hector storyline. I though that Gus was going to be the one to do something to Hector to turn him into the invalid he is in BB. Now it looks like Nacho will be the one to do it to save his father from getting dragged into the business as a drug mule.

Breaking bad was 5 seasons but the actual timeline was what, 1-2 years? I think they have plenty of room left to go for the prequel. I mean Gus has just begun to move to the laundry warehouse. Jimmy has a 1 year suspension to get through. We still need to know what happened to Kim. Jimmy has to create his criminal practice. We still have to find out how Hector wound up in the wheelchair and Taco still has to get out of jail. Etc.

Can't see that happening. They'd be milking it if they did. What's he going to do? Offer legal advice to the teenagers who work for him?

Were Kim or Chuck ever mentioned in Breaking Bad? It will be interesting to see how they all part ways. Chuck could just be forgotten about (although it looks like he's not out of the series yet). But Kim will have to either be killed off or else completely wash her hands of Jimmy once he starts getting into the Gustavo business.

It could be kind of cool if Chuck got a new identity and started practicing law at some shady law firm in Guatemala for a drug cartel or something like that. Maybe the show could end with him in a shootout with the DEA 🙂
 
Chuck goes on to become a Mexican game show host by day, a Lucha Libre wrestler by night where he fights as his alternate persona El Douche Bag.
 
I'm thinking Chuck is just going to 'get away' at some point. They are showing how he's trying to make himself get out and go around even with his mental issue. I hope it's not just a cop out though and he isn't like "I've been stuck in my house for years now I have to go see what is out there" or some bullshit. Or maybe he will get over his issue and travel around the world with his ex wife. I don't recall what she does but they made it pretty clear she's constantly moving. Or maybe while Jimmy is on this hiatus he just gets into illegal shit and everyone cuts him off. But that would be a bit too easy.

Isn't that pretty much exactly what they were portraying? The bar hearing was a wakeup call, Howard's talk gave him a boost, and he's even trying to get in touch with his old doctor. They could have him die trying to get over his condition. Or do nothing at all. With Jimmy saying he no longer has a brother, they don't really have to do much. Jimmy comes back as the cheesy Saul Goodman, with his billboards, TV ads and bad suits, and you can be sure that Chuck will disown him as well.

I don't think that they can let it go. Jimmy might have disowned Chuck, but Chuck still has a giant chip on his shoulder about Jimmy. You can read that Chuck scene in two different ways: 1) as a wakeup call to get over his condition and go back to being a lawyer or 2) If Howard is not on his side he needs to get more self-sufficient to go after Jimmy without help.

As much as I want to see Chuck die of anal cancer next episode, I don't think that's on the agenda. They've spent too much time on that relationship for it to just fade away quietly. And the reality is, Howard wanted to pass that one year suspension off as a win, to Chuck it's a loss. He was all in on getting Jimmy out of the legal profession entirely. That didn't happen. So Chuck is going to keep going after that until Chuck's dead or until Jimmy is disbarred.

No. Although given how utterly useless her character is the show would probably be better without her. Has there been a single decent Kim scene this entire season? Hell, other than the Zafiro Anejo con in S1 has there been a decent Kim scene in the entire series? Her storylines go nowhere.

And after a good episode 8, E9 was a real disappointment. Almost no Mike and the only cartel scene Nacho chickened out on switching Hector's pills.
 
Holy fuckballs, what an episode. If Kim would have died, that would have been an epic holy shit moment, because I was wondering if they might kill her character off.

Yeah, some scenes don't really seem to advance the story. Sometimes they're used for foreshadowing or to emphasize some attribute or point but it's hard to see how the oil field scene did any of that.

As was mentioned above, I felt bad for Irene too. I think it's going to be great for the story that Jimmy now has all this cash to work with but . . . poor Irene. Of course that never would have worked IRL, but meh. Not really a big deal.
 
Poor Irene. That is the first time I despised Saul the entire series. Nothing worse than swindling the elderly or children.

I don't think he has any remorse about it either.

I don't think he's "swindling" her and her friends. Irene dropped the ball and she and her friends are going to get strung along forever by HHM if somebody doesn't step in. Jimmy is just greasing the wheels to speed things along, the women will get the same settlement sooner and Jimmy will get his cut sooner. HHM is the only one getting hurt as they lose out on the bigger fees they'd earn by stalling as long as possible.

The only thing I could figure was that potentially she crossed in to the other state and took the board while directly working under contract for the oil man and they were going to come up with some bizarre legal hoop jumping to make that ruin that whole thing for her. Then she later did the thing, so maybe just foreshadowing.

That seemed REALLY out of place. That wasn't soft dirt or sand, it looked hardpack all around. Maybe it was foreshadowing some sort of geology problem? If there's something going on with the wells under the surface could the ground be breaking down, getting softer?

What show are you watching? Chuck is now a power to be reckoned with. He smacked around Howard and isn't intimidated by the insurance company. Now that he's "better" and able to work he's a long way from done in the show and a long way from done with Jimmy. That score remains unsettled.

Yeah that was the first time in the whole series I think that I have disliked Jimmy.
 
And I think the whole Kim thing getting stuck was just showing us how stressed out she is with her work, and then we see she's getting no sleep and crashes because of it. It's almost like they are setting her up for a mental breakdown of some sorts.
