Better? 64Mb Geforce2 MX or 32 Mb AIW Radeon

Hi guys,

I guess this is old technology for you guys. But which one is a better video card? A 64 Mb Geforce 2 MX or a 32 Mb AIW Radeon video card? I wondering how is the extra 32Mb of memory is going to affect my computer performance.

Thanks

Kamui

Both models are slightly down versions of the original, so if gaming is really important, go with the Geforce2, but for all the extra bells and whistles (tv tuner) at a slight sacrifice of speed, go with the AIW 🙂

Are you buying/trading a used card or buying a new card? If you are buying a new card, the AIW is going to cost alot more than it's worth. What is it that you want to use the video card for? If it's for gaming and you want a cost effective card, get a GF2 GTS-V or the straight GTS. It will cost you under $50 US for the 32meg version(about the same as the 64Meg GF2 MX). If you want a VIVO card, look at a GF2 version with vivo, like one from Gainward. You can get one under $110 US with vivo.

Thanks a lot for all the replies,

I basically have both cards seating on my desk right now, and I am planning to give one away to my friend. My daily work consists basically on email, word, excel, programming and ....sometimes AOK.

Oh, I just remembered one more thing. I have this IBM T85D that used DVI.

Which card would give me a better 2d resolution?

The AIW Radeon is clocked at 166/166 and clearly outperforms any GeForce2. The original Radeon core was meant as a competitor against the GTS, though at 166/166 it's about 15% slower then the GF2 GTS but still clearly faster then the MX.

This has always been one of the areas in which nVidia has been lacking, so for 2D the ATi board is clearly the better choice. Though the relative 2D visual quality of the GF2 MX can vary significantly depending upon the manufacturer in question so it's questionable as to how much better the ATi board would be in that respect.

I second Rand - the Radeon of ANY flavour (besides VE) will soundly trounce the Geforce2 MX no matter what memory configurations. And you'll get neat-o TV stuff to boot! 😀
