Our beloved Betsy DeVos, sister to former head of ba ba Blackwater infamous Erik Prince looks like she can't stand the heat and is going to leave the kitchen. Its not definite but a few sites are speculating she's on the way out. I say she goes and soon and we can sing another one bites the dust.

Someone who never attended public school...whose children never attended public school...and who never set foot IN a public school before getting this job...great fit for Secretary of Education...
Oh I suppose you want some uppity liberal in that position instead...

hell no...I hate the libruls as much as I hate the e-light conservatives...

How about hiring someone who actually knows something about educating children?

Pfft...sorry, I forgot...Republican administration...

"You're doin a heck of a job, Brownie!"

This is public education we're talking about, something republicans do not support. They don't even support the existence of the DOE, so why bother to appoint someone competent to run it? It's just like appointing Rick Perry as SOE. His closest connection to "energy" is the Red Bull he drinks in the morning to stave off the effects of last night's bender. Then there's Scott Pruitt, who opposes the goals of the very agency he is running. Don't expect them to appoint good people to run agencies toward which they are hostile.

How is that a liberal position? Seems like a practical position. If there was a federal secretary of car mechanics, it makes sense that person should understand and have experience with both cars and mechanics.

Gawd-Dammit...don't bring logic into a P&N discussion...

You guys really suck at humor.

I won't believe it until I see it.

That's where I'm at too, but damn would it be great to get this brainless holy roller out of office. She is a Sarah Palin level of embarrassing, as much an affront to education as Dump is to ethical and mature behavior.

Yea, at this point I don't believe anything the admin says or is reported to have said until it happens.

Scrambling for distractions seems probable.

To be fair, she did set foot in a public school, she did mentor at-risk kids around Grand Rapids. This American Life did a segment on her in september:
https://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/624/transcript

My take away is that she is a well intentioned person. She did work with at-risk youth in the past and even went above and beyond personally helping out a family with her own money, something she did not have to do.

That said, based on the segment it looks like DeVos is trying to replicate her personal experience in helping the kids out on a larger scale, and I just don't think this approach would work for everybody. Yes, it was wonderful what she did for the family, and it is the kind of example that conservatives always bring as an alternative to various public programs, she didn't just talk about it, she actually did it, she personally got involved and helped somebody, but I just don't think this example of personal charity would scale the way she thinks it will.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth, I just wanted to set the record straight.

You know, the more this thing with Trump picking Dept. heads whose singular mission is to destroy their dept.'s from the inside out, the more it looks like Trump is simply sending in suicide bombers to do his dirty work. The smarter ones are seeing just how Trump is using them, that Trump actually didn't pick them for their "stellar" qualifications, that their desire to gain stature from their assignments is having the opposite effect and that they now realize that Trump will feed them to the wolves the moment he surmises that doing that would get him out of some kind of mess he got himself in.

So if Suicide Betsy actually sees the writing on the wall and bails, then I'll have to give her some creds where she had none at all when Trump outfitted her with a custom made vest his daughter designed for her that featured hidden pockets full of explosives and a remote trigger controlled by Trump.
