Beta Tester

I'll probably get flamed for this, but why would you want to post a beta tester link, where they are only accepting 100 people, to a board where thousands of people will see it and respond? I was very excited to receive the mail, and stood who knows what kind of chance. Now, with this board and FW, tens of thousands of people are likely to see it and apply... I'm not bitter, I just want to know why you'd want to reduce your own chances...

Actually, RTG, you raise a good question.

Alot of the deals posted here cause the original poster to lose on the deal. Particularly pricing errors. Many vendors might miss a couple of sales for an obviously mispriced items, or they might simply eat the loss because it is small. However, when 1000 orders are placed for a mispriced item, the errors is red-flagged, and the retailer has no choice but to cancel the order, or because of the huge financial hit.

As for the beta testing, I bet the original poster reduced his chances 100 fold by making it public.

Yep, I got it this morning too, didn't even consider posting it for the reasons you stated. Besides, the email seemed to me like it was a more private sign up period (at least now). Oh well, I didn't hold out much hope to test it anyway 🙁

Agreed..Nod..Uh Huh.

I feel maybe someone like ohio lacks attention on the board and feels his chances are already ruined so he posts it on anandtech possibly to get some props, but no. go away ohio737!

I got the same email this morning, I assumed it was only for people on the phillips mailing list though.

We love deal, we share deal🙂
I got the Nissian Test Drive one hours ago. Very happy with the car and the free gift!

Enjoy Deal

Yeah, this shouldn't have been posted. Not cool man, not cool. It's limited to 100 people, and you know that in advance. I put up with the spam they send so I can get in on stuff like this, and now everyone knows. :disgust:

Hey, I got the email last week.....maybe because I beta tested the eXpanium and recieved my invite sooner than others.....hmmmmmmm. Anyway.....it was not cool to expose this to all.....but you can go to Betanews and they always post any need for beta testers.....that's where I entered for the eXpanium.......they don't look at just the first 100 people....that is how many testers they need....it depends on the info you give them about your experience and preferences.......I am sure they will look at people who have done testing for them, before looking at all the new people.....

but exactly that how many people are already on the spam list??? 100's 1000's or more so I don't think by posting the deal anyone will lose out

I highly doubt that posting it on here significantly reduces any particular person's chance at becoming a beta tester. You are talking about a large company, not some little start up that no one has ever heard of. Even if 5000 people sign up from here, i'm sure it's a small percentage of the total number of submissions they will receive.

I think anyone who signed up for the mp3CD player (I'd bet a lot) got the email. So the chances are kinda slim anyway.

Although, that is a neat concept. I bet it'd be perfect for the dorms here, I could listen to Electro-Pneumatic Radio all day long 😀

Zwingle,

betanews seems to me like a beta software testing site. Maybe I missed something, would you mind pointing it out as where I should go for the hardware testing?

kxy,

They also list companies that are looking for hardware testers when the need arises....look on the right side about 3/4 the way down......little article and link.

Oops, link is off the main page....here is a direct link.... Philips article link

Maybe the original poster didn't want to partake in the beta test.
Plus ... if people think it's not cool to post this stuff, why do they keep posting replies to bump the topic up again? 🙂

Zwingle,

thx for pointing it out. 🙂

I didn't see anything interesting today, but I will check it from time to time.
