It's not like you were offered an exclusive invitation....there are always links to Philips product betatests on their audio site. They are open to everyone. Morons.
 
Dude - posting stuff like this, though counterproductive, is conducive to good deal karma.

Yeah, got this e-mail this morning...hope someone here gets it. Not sure how great this product is gonna be though.

I was about to post on this deal but see that I was beaten by a mile. For all those CRY BABIES out there, GET A LIFE! I did get an email to from Philips, but would not have gotten it if it wasn't for AT in the first place. If everyone was holding out on a HOT DEAL then there'd be nothing on this forum.

I'm SURE by calling each other names that they will see your point and realize the err in their thinking...

I got this e-mail myself, and to be honest, I was annoyed that it was posted here as well. By posting here and getting a billion people to sign up, you hurt your own chances of winning. And you hurt the chances of anybody else that got the original e-mail as well. So you help some people, and you hurt others. The people you help the most are the billion lurkers in this forum that never give anything back anyway.

Now, I'm sure you can all convince me that I'm wrong by telling me that I'm a crybaby, and maybe insulting me in other ways. <grin>

It's also ironic that by posting you're bumping the thread to the top and further reducing your odds at getting one.

The betatest is for EVERYONE. There is a link to it on Philips' site. The email you got means NOTHING. It only means that you are on their mailinglist.

I don't have a 'legal' leg to stand on, because you are right - anybody can sign up. It just seems stupid to me to invite people to reduce your odds at winning something. It's in your own best interest (if you got the original e-mail) to keep the news to yourself. It's also in the best interest of everybody else on that mailing list. So by posting the information here, you basically screw over everybody else on the mailing list.

Sure you help a lot of people here that wouldn't have known about it, but it did hurt the odds of the other people on the mailing list by posting it here...

we had 2 or 3 of these already, so most of the regulars here ARE on the mailing list. So basically youre SCREWING the community over and giving back to the few thousands of people that are just passing by.

apparently it's okay to post deals on the web and exclude all others in the world not privy to Anandtech, but the moment they're put into direct competition of other AT-ers, oh do they start complaining.

i'm not saying you're a crybaby jtallon, but i do question this spirit of entitlement that seems to be the common link between all the nah-sayers of posting the betatest.

why are people on the "list" more entitled to this deal than anyone else?

i'm venturing that by "our" you are referring the elite group of people who got the email. you and 50,000 other people. You still don't seem to be justifying WHY you are more entitled to register and others are not.

fyi - Phillips Audio main site has the link, so it's not as though it's a "secret" page.

look, this isn't a flame war. I just want to know why there's this sense of entitlement when the sign-up is clearly open for everyone, including links on the Phillips Audio main page.

I think it's definitely a hot deal.

Let me pose this question:

clarkmo, when you go to the local gas station to buy lottery tickets, do you beat up the next person in line who buys tickets as well because they've diminiushed your odds of winning? Or better yet, do you send death threats to the media group that advertises the next jackpot on billboards because they've now caused more people to buy tickets which would in turn lessen you odds?

I'm sure that all those who are whinning have had used coupons posted on deal sites that was not sent to them. And by using it, they have increased the chance of the coupons being terminated early and screw over those to got it email/mail to them.

Also, remember that all the chose beta-testers will get the New Alanis Morissette CD as well!! Makes this a hotter deal... well at least for those who enjoy her music that is.

Actually, that's a good point.

To respond to docmanhatten, the reason we (the people who got the e-mail) are more 'entitiled' to the deal is because we were *ASKED* via the e-mail to enter. People who go to the Philips website and by chance see the deal are also more entitled, because they discovered it. People who read this thread and sign up are less entitled, because Philips wasn't really targeting anandtech members solely when they set the beta testing up.

But, the comment above is pretty fair - I'm upset because you are decreasing my odds of 'winning' the beta group. I guess that's the same thing that goes for coupons though - posting them or any deal on this BB is decreasing SOMEBODY's chance of 'winning' by getting in on that deal...

I guess I understand your point, and on a better day, I might even admit I was *wrong*. It's amazing what you can do when you stop just insulting people...
