The fact the percentage of accidents with injury has gone way up is most likely a sign speeds have increased with the reduction of traffic.

Not yet no. There are still a good number of local mid-sized players in most markets who would do even better in competition with the big guys if the proposed changes were enacted.

Not as a percentage of all accidents. So there are less accidents, but the ones that are happening are worse. Likely because of higher speeds. We saw the same trends across the country during the pandemic.

One of the beautiful things about living in a civilized area of the country is the dating profiles reflect that. While I'm lucky in that 80% of the women here are decent and progressive, it's also great to see it on their profiles in a message. I've always seen these over the years but the specific anti-trump or anti-maga language has gotten even more popular since the last election. I love this girls, it's her entire bio and the first thing she says. Definitely going to message her.

So a couple of weekends ago we took the family to NY. We have an exchange student with us and thought she’d like to see the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and a Broadway show (Six). We stayed near Times Square
When we got back one of my coworkers was curious how dangerous the city was. I saw some homeless folks, it smelled like weed in a lot of the Times Square area but nothing dangerous or surprising happened. Apparently he follows conservative news and assumed we’d be assaulted left and right
Actually the only surprising thing we saw was at Hugh Jackmans show ‘Live from New York with Love.’
We didn’t realize it but it was opening night and we had a wild Ryan Reynolds sighting in the audience. He was there with Shawn Levy the director of Deadpool and Wolverine.
So no violence in NY. We were however killed three times on the drive home from the airport. Twice by illegal immigrants from the 100’s of millions of invaders that have come across the Texas border and one time by a cloud of fentanyl they released.

The worst thing about your trip sounds like the Statue of Liberty. I worked there briefly while in grad school repairing the audio tours there and I just remember thinking 'that's it!?'
As has been mentioned here before I've had discussions with people who live in other cities who are convinced that NYC is a crime ridden wasteland. When they are informed the city they live in has a much higher crime rate they simply refuse to believe it. The power of media, I guess.

Sounds about right..
City 99.9% okay unless you can manage to run into whackos. That's why I still live here.
I don't tend to worry about homeless since they just want to be left alone without anyone bullying them. Usually if you buy em a sandwich or something, they're truly grateful.
It's only 2 things that make me nervous:
1. the subways in which I tend to feel a lot more nervous about especially at rush hour since we get packed like sardines into cans and then it only takes one to get angry over personal space.
2. when criminals want to steal from store merchandise or people looking to shop.. You won't run into them everyday but when you do.. your anxiety will skyrocket like mine did especially when you have your family by your side.
P.S. Glad you had a good time. Me and the wife still catch some concerts once in a while but I take Uber instead of the subway now.

Pretty excited! Today is the super neat day I've been wating for - the MTA has switched it's official maps to the Vignelli style! I'm going to email the developer of the awesome subway app I use to see when they will update their app to reflect this!

Besides just metal barriers for subways.. they need to put up concrete dividers and blocks to protect bikers and pedestrians from drug addicts driving 80MPH in a 20 MPH zone.
So sad what happened.. These crazy drivers are everywhere.. doing Uturns and speeding on every street, running red lights.. it's literally everywhere.
It's time to times squareify the entire city with concrete dividers.
