Beta fish

Just got a fish called a beta fish or simamese fighting fish...anyone have any tips on care for this type of fish?

It was at our table at a wedding we went to, and we got to take them home.

Get another male one and put them in the same tank, enjoy the action untill one dies 😛...... J/K

They are pretty easy to take case of, just get some beta food (At Wal-Mart, or any pet store) and thats about it.......

Here is a care sheet... Its written for the one that is in a vase, below a plant. Which you can do with yours with the right plant, im not sure which ones work good.

cool...ya that's what we did. He seems okay! My sis in law took two home from the wedding and got a tank that has a split down the middle. She says they just stare at each other and butt their noses on the glass at each other!

It's betta, not beta.
And they're easy to take care of. You don't even need to aerate the water or anything since they don't have gills. Still need to change the water, of course. But they're probably one of the lowest-maintenance fish.

So they just swim to the surface for air? Odd..

They have a specialized organ on their head... IIRC, it's called a labyrinth. It lets them breathe air from the surface. I read that it came about cuz they evolved in super-polluted ponds in China or something where the water's "unbreathable" for fish.

BTW, some ppl stick them in vases with a water plant and think they live off the roots or something. Very very wrong... they need food and they need to be able to surface.

Edit: Oh, I'm wrong -- apparently they do have gills, but they're not really necessary.

We actually put him in an aquarium with a pump, purely because we hoped it would keep the water cleaner for longer! We did use boiled water (yes we cooled it down!) in the tank. We also got beta fish food...so we'll see if he survives!

you don't need to boil the water..just dechlorinate it (leave it sitting for 2 days)... other than that, just feed the thing and it'll live for years

Ha ha ha Sealy 😀

Do you know why I choose the name Aquaman 😀

Fish are my hobby 😀 If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
