BestBuy's "no lemon" policy

A friend of mine bought an HP Pavilion from BB and bought the 3 year extended plan. From what she tells me, it was serviced onsite 3 times. She gave it to me to fix, keep, or whatever and it's clear that the unit is having problems.

Under their plan, since this would be fix #4, I would be entitled to a new machine. At least in theory...

Do they actually honor this? Anybody have any experience with this?

Make sure she transfers ownership of the service plan to you. Additionally, you must have all documentation on each service.

Of course, they will honor it, but you receive next to nothing towards the "upgrade."

pulse 8, time to get off the drugs :

I don't know about this plan, but if you have the proof you can argue it me thinks.

The documentation of service will be a challenge. I hope that BB has records...

Best Buy will try to weasel out of replacing it. The repairs must involve a hardware replacement. If any of the repairs were software related or cleaning related, forget it. As for the replacement, they will replace it up to the original cost of the comp but not the warranty price. I took my laptop in for a noisy fan, they replaced the wrong fan. Back it goes and they replaced the new fan that they replaced the first time with another new fan. Third time I sent specific details as to which fan was noisy. I got it back and it said they cleaned the fan and reseated the new fan. It was still noisy too. They informed me that it would now fall under the "No Lemon" clause. A few days later I got a call and was told my laptop was repaired and ready to be picked up. I didn't get a replacement but my laptop was finally fixed . . . . . . until four days later when it refused to post. 🙁 I sent it back and they replaced it with a new lappy. I had a Compaq 1.4GHz Athlon4, 256megsPC133, 8x4x24/6x cdrw/dvd, 18GB drive, 14.1" display. It was replaced with an eMachines m6811, A64 3400+, ATI Mobility 9600, 512megsPC2700, 80GB drive, CDRW/DVD-+R and a 15.4" wide screen. I had to pay $249.99 for a three year PSP (warranty) and I mailed off for $250 in rebates. It will make one penny on the replacement if the rebates go through.

i did that once, long time ago with a computer i bought from Good Guys. bought a 4 year plan for only $80. the terms were if they have to fix it for 3 times, for any problem software or hardware, they'll replace it with a same or similar machine. all three problems i had was the CD rom skipping when i played music cds. after 2 years and 2 CD roms, they replaced my Pentium 166 w/16mb ram IBM with a 350mhz AMD K62 Compaq with 128mb of ram. it was a sweet upgrade for me and well worth the $80 spent in the beginning. Good Guys kept all the record in their computer and all i had to do was bring in my old computer.

Oooh, she hates you. 😛

Best Buy honor anything? Only stupid customers with lots and lots of money to spend.

They consider problem customers "devils" and will do everything they can to frustrate you. Plan on suing them and having every bit of documentation if you are serious.

and . . . . good luck

And now the plot thickens...

My friend tells me that the technicians never left ANY documentation. *Que X-Files music*

Of course not, they are techs at Best Buy you expect them to actualy fix things and then document it?
what have you been smokin?! 😉

I just got a new fridge delivered to my house 2 weeks ago due to their "no-lemon" policy. Mind you it was difficult scheduling with their service tech (rat ba$tard showed up 6 HOURS late w/o calling me), but in the end I got an $200 better fridge than the POS they hauled off. The stupid ice lever in the door worked correctly about 6 months out of 2.5 years, and would always seem to work fine when the tech would show up.

In the end, BestBuy threw over $350 in parts and labor trying to fix the thing... then they brought me a new $1400 fridge of my chosing and took the old one to the junkyard. I can definitely say I am ahead on this PSP purchase.
