Cheaper than anywhere else, and less than $500 for a brand name.

Of course, it is even better when you can see it in action in your local store.

Scholzpdx: Just to note the brand you mentioned, Olevia, I believe went out of business recently. Not sure how you would utilize the warranty in that case.

Well i dont have the ability to check if that is the brand. I dont go into work until Saturday and wont be home until after the store closes.

I know the $19 3 year service plan would cover this item, and if it went out, target has to give you a comparable set, so purchasing that will give you peace of mind.

not too bad.. but i wonder with black friday looming what the future might hold

Thats the ticket right there. You just never know. That Digital Lifestyles was $ 599 shipped for a 42". I'd rather have gone for that then this. Still a nice deal for a top of the line name here though.

works well as monitor, although resolution is limited to 1366x768, nevertheless, it can display that native resolution over VGA cable.

Olevia went Chapter 11 on July 8. Its business operations were taken over by TCV Group which had previously molded its cases. Can't find out anything about their future plans, but there are so many Olevias being sold it must still be produced. I think competition is too intense for them to continue production for long.

'Saw the Sharp 32" at a big-box store this morning [WM or KM? I was in both]: it was among the better 32" models on display there. That may mean little as setup care is minimal at those stores and most models could display improved images.

Also liked the Vizio's ( 32" LCD @ $527, 32" plasma @ $497 [IIRC] ), but the Samsung had the most appealing tone/presentation.

Just bought mine using that coupon, they had no problem taking it (coupon says regularly priced items only).

Came to ~$495 after tax.

Nice that they took the coupon -- I'd been about to post a caviat about that "regular priced" limitation, so YMMV in other stores.

I'm puzzled by your $495 total: that suggests a 10% tax, and I thought only parts of AL had a sales tax of 10% on items (as opposed to motels, rentals, parking, dining, tickets, etc.). [NYC topped 12% for goods over $110 -until- last year, IIRC.] 7% is bad enough here in NJ, but given the revenue collapse this year, I expect upwards pressure on taxes -- all over the world!

Edit: Ahhhh... 'forgot about your "recycling tax"! [below] Thanks!

California, 8.25% tax plus the monitor recycling tax.

The Sharp TV they had on display looked HORRIBLE! so I got the cheaper Dynex 32" (as this is only a temp TV till I get a bigger room, I was watching a 13" TV) and they took the coupon so the TV was $449 - the 10% it came out to about $409 then got the 4yr best buy plan (since Dynex is a BB brand and Dynex is known to go eek sometimes) so this TV plus the 4yr plan + the first season of cheers came out cheaper then the Sharp TV by itself. I'm happy.
