Does anyone here happen to know a number BestBuy.com customer service? (not the 1-888-bestbuy number) For their online store.

I ask because I emailed them a question about having returned a printer that came with a $30 mail in gift card that I purchased with instore pickup at their website, and the fact I had to exchange it a week later at a local store for another one because it was defective... but then it shows up as returned on their website (meaning I most likely wouldn't get the gift card).

The lady in the local store insisted that I had to return the defective one for a refund instead of just exchanging it.

Bestbuy.com replied to my email and said to contact 1-888-BESTBUY in order to fullfill my request. Which is stupid, because the whole dang thing is automated and does me absolutely no good.

Nevermind, I finally found my way through their automated maze of prompts.

Apparently I won't get the gift card. Funny, she had to call the rebate center to see if I would, as if somehow the rebate center has final say over what BestBuy.com does.

This is plain stealing from customers. Yet no one ever cares about customers who get ripped off by companies. All our goverment cares about serving is the RIAA, MPAA etc.

The lady at the local store is right. Best Buy stores are essentially pickup locations for BestBuy.com, and the two exist as seperate entities for some things. Bestbuy.com orders can ONLY be refunded, not exchanged, because that's the only way the system allows it to work.

I know ways around the system, and I know of several ways to make stuff like that work. It's too bad that the person you talked to doesn't. I'd offer to help you out, but the problem is, I can't override that store's management on anything. PM me if you're interested.

All of best buy's rebates go through the rebate center, reguardless of whether the product was bought in store or online. In your case, because of the anomolies of the system, returning your defective product nullifies the gift card rebate, when processed normally.

With them, the term "customer service" is an oxymoron.

I understand that, but it depends on who "them" is. It's hard to work with the people on the phone (888 bestbuy, rebate center, and so on and so forth) but the customer service reps in store are only as helpful as they've been trained to be. I've helped plenty of customers through difficult situations, because I actually do CARE about my customers. Having LOTS of experience helps too. You can generalize if you want, but I like to think I am the exception to that rule.

Thats also another gripe I have. The bestbuy.com website clearly says that to exchange an item you have to take it to a local store. I did exactly what the website said to do. Yet the store claimed I had to get a refund.

Its too late now, but if I had to do it again I should have just bought another one and used that receipt to return the defective one. But I went in expecting a simple exchange like most stores do.

Your profile option must not be turned on. It doesn't let me view it to PM.

Shouldn't have to be turned on (although I did that anyways), all you have to do is click the little icon on the top right-hand side of my post in the thread.
