Bestbuy.com cancelled our UT24SE orders!

Unreal Tournament is coming out soon (03/18/2004 ? Now Today). I seen the add for the Special Edition at Best Buy for $29.99 and got excited. It read ?In stores on Thursday, Limited 10 per store?. Great, I?m going to Best Buy. The next day a friend tells me you can order them online at bestbuy.com. So I go to their website and sure enough you can pre-order them. Him and I both order these from the website and file it as ours. Last night (17th) we both get an email from bestbuy.com informing us that our order cannot be completed due to overwhelming requests for this product and that our order is cancelled. I called to let them know that the reason I ordered online so I would have to go to the store and now the stores don?t have them anymore because these were put on the shelf?s yesterday (stores in my area) and are all gone. The rep told me oh well and that is there anything else she could do for me (she didn?t do anything to begin with).

Bestbuy.com has lost me as a customer. I?ve ordered many times before and will never again. Resellerratings.com will be getting a review from me and my friends. Please do the same.

Does anyone know what if anything can be done about this?

It's coming out today?! WOW! I've had mine since tuesday. Special Edition too!

Problem is I guess they only really did make a limited number of the DVD versions, and EB got like 50k of them. So it's probably not Best Buy's fault.

My experience with Best Buy:
Skies Of Arcadia: Canceled.
Gamecube Bundle: refused price match to Fry's
4-3 pack DVD-R: was sent DVD+Rs, returned to store, they tried to charge me the non-sale price for the -Rs. Ended up with only two -Rs.
2-3 pack DVD-R, 2 DVD+Rs: +Rs sent after a week, -Rs canceled.

4 attempted purchases, 0 without problems. I won't even waste my time trying to get a good deal at Best Buy, they'll just cancel it.

It's stupid that there are so few DVD versions. I don't care if the headset is in limited quantities, but there should be more DVDs. Really, if you have a PC that can run UT2K4 decently there is a high probability that it also has a DVD drive. Wouldn't you think?

I'm not sure how the CD version is distributed, but UT2k3 was released on 3 CDs in paper sleeves along with a manual with the CD-Key on the back. So any time you want to reinstall you have to go through 3 discs. Also, your discs are in cheap sleeves you'd expect to see free software or drivers in so they aren't well protected. You'll note in the other thread my discs got scratched up and I had to buy a repair kit the last time I reinstalled. Of course there will be no-CD cracks already, but for UT2k3 at the start you needed your disc in to play. If you lost the manual, you lost your key. The SE has the game all on one disc plus there's a bonus disc, and it comes in a nice DVD case with the key inside so your key is always with your discs. The place I ordered the SE is selling the regular version sans headset for the same price as the SE pre-order. So you're paying the same for less. What's not to like?

Its 6 cds actually.

From what I've heard, they only made 60,000 copies of the SE 40,000 of which went to the united states, the other 20,000 got split up world wide to various other countries. Most online stores seem to have used up all of the copies they they were allocated for pre-orders alone (which is why the SE seemed to vanish off the internet 1-2 weeks ago). Yes, the Special Edition really is limited.

I wanted (and will be getting today ) the SE for two reasons. The first being that I don't want to swap cds in an out all day, and the second being the bonus disk has a ton of (well done) video tutorials on pretty much all aspects of map/model making for the game. I already have a headset, but I seem to break them a lot, so a backup is always helpful

what do you expect? You preordered the game when it had already been released . Every copy of the special edition that was available online for presale was probably sold before the 17th... err when did you order it? There was only a limited quantity of the special edition released. Why don't you send them an email back or go to the store and complain that you preordered it, it was confirmed then they cancelled the order. Call their head office... seriously though its best buy so what do you expect next time preorder from EB or somewhere that actually does games.

Got my SE version at BB yesterday as well. You people have to know how BB works in order to shop there. They said the 18th in the sale paper, but chances are, they'll get them earlier than that. The 18th is kinda like a buffer date. Just in case they get them late.
