Cool... I'll call later tonight or tomorrow for the GC..

now is it $50 per HD DVD player or $50 per order ?

I just called BBfB this time and they said I would be receiving it now with no call needed or more information. I mentioned that I was told earlier that BBfB was not eligible and he said it was funny I should mention that because he just received an e-mail from his higher ups instructing them that BBfB customers would also be receiving the deal.

Someone on FW posted that its only per order unfortunately.

Will orders made last year qualify also?

People on SD and FW are giving a Nov 06 date, so yes all orders in 2007 count.

Cool. So, we don't have to do anything, they're just going to send them to us? Sounds too good to be true.

From what the guy on the phone told me and others, if you purchased online, you are set and should see the GC in the mail by May 1st. If you purchased in store without a rewardzone card you will want to call to give them the info. If you purchased with a rewardzone card you should be set.

To bad you guys didn't buy your unit from Circuit City they have a better offer.

If you bought an HD DVD player at Circuit City and now want to switch over to Blu-ray, you're in luck.

The electronics retailer will allow consumers to trade in their HD DVD players at face value, as long as they have the original receipt, regardless of how long ago the purchase was made.

The point of the program is to use that credit to purchase a new Blu-ray Disc player. However, according to Gizmodo you can also get a gift card for the same amount.

The tech blog claims to have received an internal memo from the store explaining the promotion.

"We do not want to upset our valued customers. For this special circumstance, we are happy to offer an exchange for a Blu-ray player (customer plays any difference in purchase price) - even if it has been several months since the customer made their HD DVD player purchase. If the customer does not want a Blu-ray player, we can issue a gift card refund for their original purchase price," said the memo.

Circuit City has not yet started avertising this offer but according to Gizmodo readers it is now valid.

Too bad you didn't read the deal.

For Circuit City you must return your player. For this deal you do not. I would not return my player for a refund as I have bought movies. However, I am willing to accept $50 for free.

The BB deal is better.

Now that's a great deal. Also if you goto the original circuit city you purchased from they can usually printout a receipt of things you have bought in the past. 🙂

The Circuit City deal requires that you purchased the player within the 90 days preceding Mar 8, 2008.

Why would I do that when I have at least 20 HD movies (and Planet Earth on the way for $15)? I suppose technically I could since I have a backup A3 in the closet, but then I'd have to shell out ANOTHER $250-300 for a fully functional BR player. No thanks.

I stopped buying HD movies, period. My HD player is the A3 and it's only 1080i. The 300 movie looked a bit grainy (interlaced) on my 1080p tv. Maybe it was the 300 look...

Anyways, Blu-ray is the future and I already own a PS3. Glad that BB is refunding something to their customers.

The grainy look has nothing to do with 1080i

Just to torment the b00-way crowd, BB is sending me a $50 gift card for the A30 I got on clearance for $50 plus tax. A free upconverting DVD player is a
STEAL.

The thing is, I just got this last week! 😉

Now I got 2 A30s and an A2, but the A2 is gonna get Ebayed. I got one A30 NEW for $119.00 and free shipping at Vann's. The BB clearance A30 didn't have the 2 HD movies, of course. And I got 50 HDs to go along with it (not including multi disk sets like Planet Earth or Blade Runner).

And 300 has a grainy look to the video, like Sleepy Hollow does. You will see the same grain on b00-way.

There's so many things wrong with this paragraph I don't even know where to start.

My $50 came in.

It's all I expected to get (well, it's actually $50 more than I expected to get, so agreed props to BB for this, that's quite generous on their part). But those getting $100, did you buy two players? Or something earlier or more costly than the $199 A3 model? Just curious.

Best Buy is giving $50 gift cards for each player purchased, so anyone that is getting more than $50 purchased more than one unit.

I wish it was based on the amount you paid though. I bought a first-gen A1. Can't complain though. The A1 is still going strong and has never given me any problems.

geez wish i made the wrong choice for HD content last year

Seriously though, this whole thing is interesting, has there every been a case where the customer is rewarded after making a bad purchase? Not that HD-DVD is bad at all if you need an upconverting player or already have like 30 hd movies.
