I want to boost my 64 3000+ to a dual core.

1. Should i get an opteron or x2? used for gaming primarily and just everyday work

2. What is the differance in the x2 cores? for example, toledo and machester, the manchester costs a lot more?

ANy differance between them?

Actually, the original Toledo cores have twice the L2 cache of Manchester cores. It seems that AMD is now disabling half of the L2 cache in some of their Toledo cores, so they can sell them as 3800's and 4200's, which are supposed to be Manchester cores.:Q BTW, the Toledo cores are likely going to overclock better.

If you're going s939 x2 then the 3800 is the cheapest way to go but you better hurry because the supply is drying up.

I snatched mine up as the final upgrade to my system. Cheap cpus ftw.

Opteron if you are overclocking. Toledo has half the L2 Cache of Manchester.

i think you ment this the other way around.

Manchesters have half the cache of toledos.

Get a Toledo Core if possible.

To my knowledge tho id try to get a hold of a 65W TDP X2-4400 if there still around. Those were great overclockers, and you get less heat output on them then the regulars.

I'd have to agree. I did the upgrade from a 3000+ Winchester, to a X2 3800+ Manchester. Nice upgrade. I also run that CPU @ 2.4 GHz with no voltage tweaks.
