I know that the xt is faster than the pro, but is the pro a better buy? I want to pick up a new card in the next day or two so I need a recommendation within those two classes, the pro or xt. Thanks so much.

X1950Pro

X1950XT

XT is better, Pro is cheaper. Do a search for X1950Pro vs. X1950XT, theres a few aticles comparing the two. I chose the XT, but that was before the pricedrop on the Pros, and the recent price drop of the 8800 GTS 320MB to <$300

8800GTS 320

Thanks! That Evga card you link to, does anyone know if it really gets too hot and if I should put an aftermarket cooler on it? Thanks.

Actually a better question would be: which gaming card is best for an E6300, 2gb of ram and a 19" monitor without being a bottleneck or an overkill? Thanks.

19" LCD (1280x1024) or CRT (1600x1200)?

The best cards you could get ATM with max. eye candy and solid fps:

LCD: 8800 GTS 320
CRT: 8800 GTS 640

Either the X1950 Pro or XT would be decent choices, too, if your price is lower, but performance on those should definitely be lower than on the 8800-series cards.

Also, I'm not sure what your current setup is, but overclocking your E6300 might give you a pretty solid framerate boost. C2D's are just huge overclockers for some reason.

It's a CRT. I need a new cooler (besides the stock one) for my 6300 before I OC. Also, which brand of GTS is the right choice? Any deals on the 640mb model? Thanks.

Given the same model, price is the most important factor for most people.

Preferred brands: BFG, EVGA
Features to look for: HDCP, non-stock cooling, factory overclock

You should be able to get a good overview of clock speeds and prices by going to gpureview.com and typing in "8800 gts 320" without the quotes.

I've found newegg.com to have the best combination of prices and customer service, unless you are outside the U.S., in which case prices (even relative to other models) will be quite different and likely higher than in the U.S.

Of these VidCards, for the system you mentioned, i would go w/ the 8800GTS 320, IMHO, as Drivers mature, this card is only going to get better.

Ok. I'm curious, why not the 640mb model? Not worth it?

Also what wattage of psu do I need? I have a 500w right now.

If you've got the $$ for the 640, go for it. I assumed by your earlier posts you were looking for the best bang for the buck, which is the 8800GTS 320 right now, IMHO.

500W should be plenty for that system, which Brand, Model is it??

It's an MGE Vigor 500w. I just posted in the General Forum about it. I have heard mixed opinions on it, and its getting pretty old.

Maybe you want to spring for the 320 w/ a new solid PSU, and then you could do some GPU overclocking to cover the difference without any worries of overworking your rig.

The VRAM difference between <512 MB and 512+ MB is starting to become significant. Games are using more/larger textures, which eat up VRAM, higher resolutions (i.e. 1920x1080x4x2 = 16588800 or 16 MB total for the primary and back buffers), antialiasing (e.g. 2x or 4x the back buffer size). Game developers are still targetting 256 MB cards, of course, but those optional texture packs you see for Oblivion and other games tend to use up a lot more VRAM than the stock games.

I can't give any concrete answer on the economics of 320 vs. 640--someone more knowledgeable could probably tell you what to do there.
