eeewwww!

Word 97

Word 2000 is a joke. Same program + customized menus <- YUCK

customize menus are the worst marketing idea of all time. It absolutely sucks and if you forms, styles and 30% of the options available under word, you must turn off that stupid option so that you can see the options available under the menus!!!

Some marketing idiot thought it up and he probably got a big fat raise, but there is no way that it is useful!

Word2000 (or Word in general) is definitively NOT the BEST word processor. However and unfortunately, it's the program most people, including me, are used to, which is why it still sells.
I've tried StarOffice, but I don't like it ... why? because it's not Word.
Aside from that, for making personal notes and such, I use notepad.

Notepad! :D

Seriously Word 2000 rocks. Corel Wordperfect sucks bigtime and I haven't seen any other word processors that can match MS Word.

Gotta vote for MS Word 6.0. All the versions past that just got too bloated with options I never really use. Unfortunately one cannot find Word 6.0 anymore so Word 2000 is my choice, though I look forward to using Lotus Smart Suite Millenium which comes on the ThinkPad I ordered from IBM way back in July. I also like IBM Works for OS/2, it does everything I need it to without taking more than about 10 seconds to completely finish loading.

602Pro PC Suite is fantastic when you consider it's MS Office compatible and FREE. Like many, I built my computer so I didn't get MS Office bundled-in. I'm too cheap to buy MS Office and too honest to pirate it from the office, so this was a great solution for me.

I used to really like the Lotus one. Then I got Word. Word is a little easier and more powerful.

Never in my life did I think I would choose a Micro$ahft program over anything else! :(

Word 97 and 2000 are the best IMHO as everyone uses them. Sadly, they are bloated. As a previous correspondant said, Word 6.0 was the business back in the day of W 3.11. If all ya gonna do is type out reports and letters, a 486DX with Word 6.0 will do me fine :)
