Best Wireless PCI NIC?

802.11b is all I have, so that's all I need I guess... unless there a newer G/H/N/whatever they have now that's significantly better.

I don't visit other forums, so Nik can just STFU.

I went from a Linksys 802.11b setup to a USR 802.11g setup with the accelerator sh!t. Picked up an antenna booster and it reduced my lag greatly.

Maybe I should say, are there any brands of wireless NICs that I should avoid? Probably just generic eh?

I'm having very good expierence with the Belkin Pre-N.
To get the full effect you also will have to buy the Pre-N cards, but even without it gives me a great performance boost, just google it for reviews

hmm. Perhaps I wasn't clear.

I already have a wireless 802.11b router... Currently, only my brother is using the wireless part.. I'm wired.

But I'm going to be changing rooms, and the router has to stay in this one.. so I want to go wireless too.

so, I was asking for advice on a card rather than just buying the cheapest one I can find. Or should I just do that?

I'd just buy the cheapest one you could find that supports 802.11g/b. (b for now, g for in case you upgrade in the future)

I hooked up a Linksys PCI adapter in my brother's rig, and it works NICE, and had no problems connecting to the wireless network. I don't know if it was the Linksys software or the SP2 wireless stuff, but it installed very easily.

It should be plenty fast enough as it is :beer:

It's in my room.. I'm wired. I'll be moving to another bedroom, but the cable jack is in this room.. so the equipment will stay in here.

So rather than getting and running a longer cable, I just want to get a wireless NIC.

Maybe he'll just go wired when he moves into this room, probably not though since he's lazy and his setup works fine.. lol

Their wireless stuff has always been finicky about maintaining a connection for me.

I've tried a million things and it's always something different that temporarily fixes it. Restarting, unplugging the wireless router, removing and re-adding the wireless network from the list... There is no logical reason for things like this to happen when a computer has a solid connection and is really just sitting idle.
