I am looking to replace my ailing Color Sidekick and I was wondering what is currently the best web-enabled phone right now?

The browser on the Sidekick is just great, but I haven't played much with Blackberry or Treo or anything else. At the time I bought, the Sidekick had the most capable browser around, but I imagine things may have changed in 18 months.

I am specifically talking about "smartphones" but I am more interested in browsing and instant messaging than I am PDA-like functionality.

PocketPC 6600/6601 is nice, i have it on loan from Sprint as a demo right now. Treo 650 is pretty sweet too, when I'm done with the PPC i'll get it as a demo. This is the only Blackberry I have dealt with. I'm not a big fan, not a lot of programs out there for it like the Treo or PPC and the lack of a stylus takes a lot of getting used to.

Another vote for the pocketpc 6600. I bought one on sprint account and I pay 10 bucks/month for everything unlimited but video mail.

The 6600 is a pda first and phone second, while the treo is a phone first with a pda built in.

I've had the 6600 crash on me about 5 times, almost always while using thunderhawk 2 web browser. My scala 500 bluetooth headset should be in sometime today or tomorrow.

I've got to admit, the PocketPC based devices are great for everyone. Familiar look and feel of windows, and Internet Explorer IS Internet Explorer, not some crazy WAP only, text only browser. Contacts, Email, Calendar all look like Outlook. Also using Exchange ActiveSync is awesome, especially since it is free with Exchange 2003 vs buying BES software for Blackberry which is over $3000 for the number of licenses we would need. Treo 650 supports EAS now too!

I'll have to check these out. At a glance, I find the Treo more appealing, but both look pretty nice.

what no way...

$79 for Treo 650? you kidding right??

6630/6620/6600/6670/7610 gets my vote
As big of a Blackberry fan as I am, I don't think a bberry is the best device for IM/Browsing, especially without a BES.

I'd go with a Windows Mobile device.
