What's the best FREE way to put mpeg files on a DVD to play in a regular DVD player?

Thanks!

I have Pinacle studio 9, but it doesn't make the dvd as good as the mpg - the transitions are choppy, sometimes the video or audio gets choppy.......

If you don't need to convert to a high-res format, the trial version of TMPGEnc can do unlimited MPEG-1 conversions, which is valid on a DVD at 352x240.

If you want truly freeware, try out DIKO. (If you do that I highly suggest you go to the DIKO forums and look at the thread about using HC Encoder vs. FreeEnc as well)

Once you use either of those to convert you can author with DVD-Lab, which is somewhat limited but free for the basic stuff. A little hard to get down though.

Just used DIKO for the first time, and it works. However, it changed the widescreen aspect ratio to 4:3 with permanent black bars. Unless I'm missing something, that can't be the "right thing"?

Nitpick: it doesn't warn about free disk space necessary.

Finally, anything wrong with the built-in DVD authoring? Why should one try DVD-Lab or anything else?
