Best way to test if a mobo has issues?

So I got a used MSI Z77-G45, the board seems fine, BIOS is fine so it seems.

But as this is a new install i'm doing all my windows updates and i've had no end of problems trying to get them installed.

Eventually got WIN7 SP1 installed, but now other smaller updates are locking up as well.

The PC isn't locking up, but it does lose internet connection occasionally.

I reinstalled windows twice and each time just as it was preparing the desktop i got a BSOD with "memory management" errors. After I restart the PC I never get that again.

I checked the memory, V/card, CPU etc.. and all seems fine.

I'd start & disable HPET in bios to see if slower timings work for you..

I also suggest, when setting up a new system (or new system based on used part acquisitions) to disable all the features deemed non-essential. For the setup, use the main onboard controller; disable secondary controllers like Marvell or Silicon Image; disable auxiliary USB3 20-pin controllers; avoid adding extra hard drives or add-in cards.

I just rebuilt my PC Friday and had 167 Win7 updates to install even after a fresh SP1 install disk.

I usually just accepted them all at once and let it start downloading. But it would hang after a few minutes and just sit there.

It may not be your motherboard but I eventually had to only check 3-4 at a time and they would finish in a few seconds to a minute.

Took a while to get through them but saved the frustration of having to cancel the download every time and starting over.

I never solved the reason they hung but this was on the brand new board in my sig.

Sometimes a batch of updates will include a few that won't install successfully with the others. More often, they get picked up and successfully installed in the next go-around.

No doubt about it, though -- this is always a b**** that causes some concerns.

this is exactly what i did friday, had to do them all in little increments, essentially microsoft is serving the updates in the wrong order, as some of the updates required others before they would install.
