Best way to staple?

Have you noticed that people staple sheets of paper with staples always aligned in a similar manner? I have. For example, I like to staple at about a 45 degree angle. Another guy I work with staples horizontally, close to the edge, using tiny, disgusting little staples, it freaks me out each time I take in my hands the stuff he stapled. Such sheets are also prone to become loose, and tear with time.

So what do you think? What's the best way? At an angle, horizontal or vertical? I'm aiming at the durability of the bond and the ease of turning over the sheets.

Normally people fold the paper over the corner, so at a 45 degree angle would be best, with fairly large staples to make it secure. Most other ways are worse, so do 45 degs.

If it's a hand stapler, then at a 45 degree angle at the top-left corner of the paper. But if it's one of those electric staplers, I just do it horizontally because it's hard to tell exactly where it's going to staple it when I try to do it at an angle.

I prefer the 45 degree angle staples.. i think they hold out longer because one part of the staple is no contacting the fold of the paper more that then other parts so that it does not tear as easy.

I really don't care most of the time!! If I pay attention and do it the way I think it looks good, it's vertical about 1/2 inch from the edge.

yep, i hate people who do it the wrong 45-degree way too... with one end facing the top left corner and the other end facing the bottom right corner. If i flip open a page too fast, the whole packet falls apart.
