Best way to share a network drive in windows over the internet and how to do it?

Where (in technological terms), and how this "Network Drive" is Installed?

On a regular Home LAN it is advisible to have Independent Drive/NAS and use it for over Internet communication.

Since most internet bandwidth is far below lan speeds, I would just attached the network drive as an external usb to your router and use that.
