Third time getting pulled over and getting a $250 ticket (but got all of them dismissed just by appealing).

As I'm getting older (26). I'm just gonna remove all the tint. I am however afraid how much of pain it is to get rid of them. They're are professionally done after market tints.

What's the best way? Don't I need some sort of an abrasive & cleaning spray? Maybe I should call up a tint professional and ask...

Get your hands on a garment steamer.

Trust me on this.

Worked like a charm when I had to remove my tint.

Any source of steam will do if you can't find a garment steamer...

The steamer works but the way I did it was a bottle of windex and a blade. Once I was able to cut through the film, I was able peel off huge chunks without it tearing.

I plan on removing only side 4 windows, not rear. I hear sides are much easier - just razor blade + 409 spray + windex.

Where can I get garment steamer? Maybe I should just use it once and return it. ;)

Got pulled over twice for mine in 6 years, I've always told myself the 3rd time would prompt me to remove.

As long as you aren't doing a rear that has a defroster ... (which you just said you aren't) ...

Like you said, just a blade + 409 + windex will be a breeze!

I've done this on old ass tint ... a lot of times they heat up with a hair dryer or heat gun ... but since you aren't preserving anything .. just blade it!

Wow, that's a steep fine. Here in NH, we can have tint on everything except the front side windows, and windshield. The limit is 35% which I had installed on mine, but I really didn't want the "SUV look" with just tint on the rear sides and rear windshield. I went ahead with the tint on all but the windshield, and in almost 2 years, I only got pulled over for it once, and it was by a state trooper right around the DMV in Concord. This particular state trooper apparently has a thing for pulling people over for things like tint, exhaust, etc.

The tickets here for it though are only $42, and I just paid mine. If mine were $250, I'd probably be removing mine if I got a ticket. However, it seems to only be an issue with certain troopers who like to pull over for things like that.

Good luck...

I've had front windows tinted on all of my rides since '98 including 5% limo tint on the front windows of one car (which is dangerously dark in retrospect) and knock on wood I've never gotten pulled over. I know other people in the state who have been pulled over a bunch of times...I dunno how I get away with it. I have been doing 5% on the back windows and 35% on the sides for a while and I like the way that looks.

Only 35% on the sides could be a huge factor, a dark back windshield isn't a big target for cops apparently, it's the side windows they go after especially if they can't see you while riding along side.. that's why I always keep and eye out for cops and power my windows down to at least let them see me and possibly avoid a ticket. And trust me, my eyes are trained like a hawk's with all the cops to avoid in Philly.

I've done the same when I can, but when you live in an area where you get nasty winters, and cold temps, it looks more suspicious when you are driving around with your window down and it's like 5 degrees out.

LOL.

Of course, I get inspected in July, so I just go in with the windows down then.

:)

I work at a decal shop. You should be able to use windex and a razor blade like someone suggested. You cant scratch the glass with a blade. You can get some adhesive remover if you need to as well.
