Best way to remove a video card HSF?

The fan is from a BFG GF4 4600 Ti. It seems to be apoxied on. I've heard of using a hair dryer to heat it up then remove it by placing a credit card under it then prying it off with a screw. Is there any better way to do it, cause I don't really trust myself to do that.

You can run some graphically intensive programs like 3dmark to heat up the card instead of using the hair dryer. Also, it may help if you give the hsf a twist rather than pull, as a twist would put more of the stress on the adhesive without putting more stress on the core.

I shall try the twist and the playing games method out. Thank you. :)

I do the hair dryer + twist. Remember to remove the push-pins if they're there!

The heatsink can get pretty damn hot though, might want to wrap it in a paper towel or something. This is especially true if you use the hair dryer.

Yea it did get hot. I got it off though, and replaced it with the a1394 from thermaltake. Lets hope this solves my artifact problem, as it was probably heat related.

Geez, you could have sent it back to BFG and they would have replaced it. Lifetime warranty.

Well, when they fail to respond to 3 seperate Emails, I pretty much lose faith in a company. Screw um, I won't be going back to BFG again.

Why not call them? The tech support is open 24/7.
