yeah i don't know if any machine shops around, especially over the weekend. the vise grips are only like $15 so i'll just grab em. i'm sure they will come in handy in the future as well.
Needle nose vice grips should get the job done. ProTip™, keep your fingers out of the way of the release lever when you're taking the t-nut out of the jaws.

nope. only been a home owner for like 7 months and just never needed one prior, although this need isn't for a house, so that doesn't really make sense lol.

always used wrenches and pliers but apparently they don't work for everything!

Dremel.

First, I'd GENTLY see if I could lift up the gasket enough to use a cutoff wheel under the head.

If not, I'd get an grinding stone and grind down the head. Mask off the speakers so the grinding schmutz doesn't land on them.

Something like this, 911 aluminum oxide grinding stone.

I would just cut off the head and hammer the whole thing into the cabinet. Can you do that?

You'll have a rattly piece in there though...

It sounds like he needs to do what was already mentioned, which is exert upward force on the underside of the fastener's head while unthreading it.

Read: pry on the bitch. There is no 'it didn't work.' Only 'you failed.'

If a flat screwdriver can't get it, try a pair of dykes (sidecutters).

Congratulations! You now own a Vise-Grips. With the addition of a hammer, a large flat head screw driver, a utility knife, and some elctrical tape, there is nothing you can't fix.

Wait.

You could hold the back of the nut, and you were asking us how to get the screw out?

For the record, 'hold the nut' is now your advice for anytime you can't get a screw out and you can access the rear. In all other cases with nothing to hold, the solution is 'pull up on the head.'

He tried, but didn't have the right tool until now.

In the words of so many others, posted above... read the thread :awe:

I have an uncle that welded a nut onto a bolt with a head that broke off. I thought he was crazy, but it worked. Now its my goto solution for everything.
The father of the guy we bought our welding rig from had welded a new valve handle onto the top of the acetylene cylinder. Yes, he was drawing off the same cylinder he was welding. Balls of steel.
