I've got a roommate living in the basement directly beneath the living room upstairs.

I've adjusted the bass on my receiver to the lowest level, but even at a relatively low volume, you can still hear the thumping pretty noticeably.

I'm just curious to know of some things I can do to minimize the noise coming through the floor/vents. (I've got hardwood floors).

Bass travels too well to really do anything about. You've done all you can do.

Turn it off and be courteous to your roommate, you jerk.

Agreed. There should be a well-defined time at which the sub goes off so your roommate can sleep. Nothing worse than an a-hole roommate that pumps the bass at 2AM when you've got work or school in the morning.

Area rug.

If your speakers are ported, try covering the ports.

Hang a blanket along your back wall.
