best way to promote a new website

Does anyone have any experience with promoting a new website? I put a link to the site in my signature. So far we're using Google AdWords and passing out sample cards.

If anyone has any feedback on the website, it would also be appreciated. Thanks!

why does this seem like a horrible idea for a business?

and what use woudl these have? pics of people half naked, drunk, acting emo, etc.
and then to list your other stuff...wth?

I can tell you that I'd never be caught dead with one of these in my wallet. 😛

In terms of promotion, there are a number of social networking blogs like http://mashable.com/ that you might want to get noticed by (write them something). Otherwise, pick your Google Ads targets carefully.

I've been to a number of events where a person is verbally giving out his/her MySpace/Facebook website addresses while the other person tries to write it down on whatever he/she has nearby. The thought is that someone could hand out a card that has this information on it, along with some basic information about the person/company.

you guys might not want it, but im sure the other idiots on myspace etc would love these

seems like a good idea!

You guys think Myspace and Facebook are bad sites and those have made people hundreds of millions of dollars.

Anyway, I think a good way to promote it is to get your friends and their friends some free cards so that they can check them out and give them away to people.

Write a press release or something for a site like Mashable. Create some sort of related cool, trendy, application for facebook.

start at the source.
create an advertisement graphic sized for the comment area, tell your friends on myspace you'll buy them a beer if you can 'spam' their comment box with your ad

maybe you could you do a special introductory offer, something like 10 cards FREE! (+$4.99s/h)

you guys do have a myspace profile i hope, i searched and didn't find it.

Go to a large shopping facility, make contact with teenage girls with bleached blond hair, those sunglasses that cover 3/4ths their face, and say the word "like" to many times to count in once sentence, and give them your card.

Thanks for all of your input. We just changed the main page, let me know what you think. Has anyone ever used facebook Flyers?

We decided to go ahead and give out some free cards. If anyone is interested and would actually pass these out, send me a message and I'll send you a code for free cards. Thanks.

Facebook just launched a targeted ad system that this would be perfect for.

Advertise at your sources. Get social media blogs talking about it.

Maybe make a funny mini-commercial for it if you've got decent editing capabilities? If it is actually funny, could go viral and get passed around.

You're site is pretty damn nice too I must admit
the tool used to create the cards etc. I like out it auto-links to my picture gallery automagically etc.
Good idea I think for all the myspace freaks out there....

Edit: I'll take a free code. I could hand a few of these out.

BlinderBomber, thanks for the tip on mashable. We submitted a press release and they put up an article already!

Homerboy, I'll send you a code in a minute.

I don't thinks this is a bad idea. People on facebook are willing to pay $1 to send their friends a "gift" which is just a tiny little icon that shows up on your page.

Edit: I could definitely see girls at sorority mixers and whatnot handing out their facebook/myspace cards.

Thanks again for all of your input. The mashable article really helped us get some attention to the site. Has anyone ever heard of killerstartups.com? They did a write up for the site and we're trying to get into the top 5 sites of the week. If you have a second, I'd appreciate it if you'd go here and click on the "killers" icon on the left:

Thanks!

neat idea. cool site. well done. i would pass a few out but i don't think any of my friends would be interested in this. we are not quite the facebook freaks crowd.

Seems like it could be a popular business idea.

I would sponsor banner ads on websites and maybe hire a SEO consultant to bring traffic.
