If shark is a flop, i'll try ffdshow next then.

what would I need haali for?

haali is the splitter. It splits the audio and video stream from an mp4/mkv for ffdshow to process. I wouldn't uninstall shark, but rather just install ffdshow afterwords and see if it works (it should overwrite the old shark version of ffdshow).

well, neither ffdshow or haali helped....now it says files aren't supported by the 360 now.
Weird... Can you open the files in WMP regularly? If not, are you using the x64 version of ffdshow?

Yeah, I figured that is what you meant...no luck working.

Do I need to configure shark somehow?

Are you using windows 7 or a derivative thereof? I know that windows 7 is a little more strict about which codecs can be used (especially the x64 version).

There really shouldn't be any changes for you to make. The codec should be set to use the most sane decoders. You could change which codecs are being used when through ffdshow configure if needs be. It has been a while, so I'm not sure where the settings are to change this stuff. Seems like you can specify that MPEG-4 streams use lavc to decode their stuff from the ffdshow config menu. It also seams like you needed to specify to ffdshow that, yes, you do what to use its MPEG2 decoder.

I think I might just have to get that WD live, haha.

I re-tried tversity and ps3 media server...really bad stuttering on ANY movement scenes. It wasn't worth tweaking. Tversity was even defaulted to 1024x768 and it still stuttered like mad trying to transcode.

I'm not surprised that you just can't get it working. I would think that you should be able to transcode just about anything on the fly with the q9550. I don't think it's the transcoding that's the problem.

I've tried to help a couple of guys get their Xbox 360s up and running to stream movies with the exact same results you are getting, i.e. stuttering and jumping. BR rips, DVD rips... didn't matter. I think we figured out the problem after endless hours of troubleshooting. It's cuz the Xbox 360 sucks donkey balls as a video streamer. The only files that I ever got to work were h264 encoded .mp4 files with 2-channel .aac audio tracks and some dvd rips that we converted to dvr-ms files and used with the media extender. It's just plain pickier than a six-year old in front of a plate of peas.

The WD Live will be much easier for you.

What bothers me is the rips worked when they were in m2ts, and now they're in mp4 and they're failing, hard.

ONE thing I did read, that might actually make sense ... is I applied SP1 when MS released it in windows update....I wonder if that caused it to stop reading avi/mp4's? I only recently switched to mp4's, so I don't have a test of before SP1.
