I was just wondering what the best way to network 4 or more computers with DSL is. I dont want to use ICS, so i was wondering if its possible just to connect the DSL modem to the uplink of a hub, and then have the hub split the connection to the computers. Are there better ways to do this? more secure?

Thanks

If you hook the DSL modem to the uplink port of a hub or switch, you're going to need a seperate IP address for each computer. A router is the way to go because you'll be able to share the one IP address that your ISP has given you (unless you've bought more) and you won't have to worry about ICS or things like that. The router will handle everything for you.

we do have a router (forgot to mention),but it only has one port. so if that port is connected to the hub's uplink, that will be fine?

Yep, connect the uplink port on the hub to the router's one port and then the computers to the hub and you'll be fine. The router will take care of all of the internet problems, while the hub/switch handles all the LAN traffic.
