I want to timeline a major problem we had with a vendor, and the steps along the way to correction.

Wanted a timeline because it will make a good visual impact of how long this went on.....

Excel doesn't do it. I was thinking MS project, but I don't think gant charts are suted.

and visio just does flow charts... :disgust:

MS Project does more than just gant charts....it has some sort of timeline view...but im not 100% it will do a timeline how you are thinking.

I'd say just draw it with some crayolas and poster board :D

Powerpoint. Even better, you can set up your slideshow so that each event in the timeline will show up in chronological order with a click. Spoonfeed them information and they'll understand it.

But I'll have to manually enter in blocks and stuff right?

I was hoping I could enter data in a table format.

Can't enter in a table format, but if you have ever used Visio it is very easy. You just use the Timeline template provided by MS.

I don't understand why you don't want to use a Gantt chat. It is a timeline that graphically shows you how long each task took/takes and shows the interdependance of tasks.

I made a timeline in word... just make a line going across the paper and use text boxes?

Illustrator.

Then make it about 20 sheets of paper wide, print them out, tape them together and it makes the problem seem much bigger.

I would use the "Tracking Gantt" view in MS Project to make a timeline. Otherwise, make your own "text" calendar in Excel and use that with comments.

but I don't want a gant timeline, I want one solid line showing how many days problems lingered between vendor responses etc.
