i learned a lot from typing notes for classes. my handwriting often got notoriously worse as the year progressed in school, and i knew i wouldn't motivate myself to study for exams unless i typed the notes and read them electronically. i also made q&a guides for study aids. when you're pressed for time and need to type up 20 pages of notes, you'll pick up touch typing relatively fast.

and no, i don't use all 10 fingers, but i type approximately 95-100wpm.

I never used a typing program. As a result, my typing is 'unorthodox', not really any system to it, but it works for me. Just type a lot.

:D exactly what I was going to say. I went from hunt and peck to roughly 70 WPM, accurate as can be, with the help of IM.

There's a lot of free typing programs you can find over at http://www.download.com and there's also websites you can go to to do it. Or take a course at a local Tech College or something like that.

I took a class in high school and went from 50 to 80 wpm. Since then just regular typing has sped things up. I can type 90-95 wpm if I'm focused.

I used Typer Shark Deluxe for that task. It shows you what fingers on what keys you should use
