I have two hard drives, a 200gb WD SE that came with a Promise PCI controller card, and an 80gb Seagate that is on the motherboard controller. When I got the new drive I installed Windows on a 42gb partition and formated the rest, about 140gb, for storage. The swap file is on the 200gb drive. My Windows XP install is acting wierd so I'm going to reinstall... but I'm wondering if I should install Windows on the old Seagate and use the whole WD for storage and the swap file. What do you guys think? I know that the Seagate is slower from reviews and such, but I don't have HDTach registered so I can't check.
I'm not sure if I posted this in the right forum.. I figured it is more of a matter of getting speed out of my hardware than a software or OS matter.

Edit: I posted again In Off Topic because I'm in a rush to reinstall :p.

you get better performance if you moce the swap file to HD opposite the one with the OS on it.

why do u have the HD on the promise controller? why not place it locally?

kt333 and later MB can support drivers larger then the previous limit.

Really? For the Promise PCI controller I had to use some special drivers other than the default Windows ones.. I'm not sure if any updated drivers exist for my motherboard's onboard.

via 4-1 drivers

but it is more a bios support issue, and XP supports onbaord chipsets just fine, it is the external controllers that you need to add drivers to get running.

i say use the onboard for the faster HD and the external card can handle the slower 80 GB drive

also make sure u have the latest bios

I think I'm going to put both harddrives on the onboard and put my CDRW and DVD drives on the PCI card.

I waited almost half an hour with no response here. I thought the likelihood of someone knowledgeable visiting my n00b thread was low.
