Is there any target practice program which I can use to better my aiming abilities in FPS games? I'm in search of one as my aim is pretty bad now. Will be playing a LAN tourney is like 3-4 months and I would only like to practice aiming....does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks

My suggestion is just play....and then play some more...and then a little more...

Seriously though, the best way is through experience. It doesn't really matter if it's online play. While online play would be better, even the single-player campaigns on the faster pace games like Quake3 or UT2003 will go a long way to improve your aiming.

Keep playing the game. Also, you may want to invest in a light mouse like a Microsoft 1.1a or 1.0a whatever it's called without batteries or any special buttons that is wired. Also get a ratpadz gs, those two are a great combonation.

The biggest thing is just practice. You'll also need a good quality mouse (optical is generally best) and a good surface like a smooth, not one coloured desk.

Just don't start giving up things in your life to "practice" games!

Play 3D pong
Have to have fairly good mouse skills, and UT is a great game to help as well, especially if you increase the game speed, means you need even quicker reactions. It takes time though, and can go away if you stop playing.

the best way is to just keep playing that game over and over, nad not another game, games have their own specifics of play and speed, if you're good at Ut you're not nececearily good at Q3 etc, so just practice the one game u wanna play the most at the lan.

Play Quake1.
IMO there's no other game out there that rewards skill like Quake1, so you'll either have to learn or you'll just end up crying or screaming, or both.

I was going to recommend Quake1 earlier, but didn't want to sound too "Old School". :)

My advice is simple and all you need to do is download and install Rocket Arena and the Omnicron bot. Load up the ArenaX map, throw in a few bots with the highest skill you can play, and your aiming will improve in no time.

My favorite technique for RA practicing is to get the bot (or player) up in the air using the rocket launcher. Then, finish him off, but don't let his feet touch the ground until he's dead. :D

ut2003 demo or game set the game speed to at least 180 and make the bots hard, don't give up and play and play and play.change up constantly and you will get better.

Practice against a lot of bots on the highest difficulty level, get an optical mouse and make sure you find the level of mouse sensitivity you're comfortable with. Also be sure to tweak every game to give you a good balance of performance and eye candy as a lack of either can disadvantage you.

Quake III is one of the best games to practice with.

Do you know of any optical mice that are actually good enough to use for fast paced FPS's?
I've tried an MX500, and Microsoft something, and neither was fast enough, so Im back to rollerball mice, though I use the MX500 for everyday use, I just keep both plugged in and switch to my rollerball when Im gonna play QUake, CS, etc :)

hands down best combo EVAR logitec mx700/radpadz GS. This combo is faster than my wired ball mouse was.

MX700 here too. I have the 310 and the 700 just KILLS it. I play CoD, BF1942, Q3, UT2k3 and I do not notice anything but improvement over my MS optical and MX310.

I tried using the MX700 but it just felt too "heavy" and big as compared to any of my wired mice. Right now I am using a MX310 (with mouse feet and a Ratzpad) and love the smaller footprint.

I've had the original Microsoft Intellieye Explorer for more than three years and it's best mouse I've ever used, especially for gaming. The tracking and response is simply outstanding and I've never had any issues with it.

I will never, ever go back to POS ball mice again.

The man has spoken again... :D
Also find a crosshair style(don't remember if I type it correctly), that best suits you in a game. It is important to be comfortable with your cross when you play.Sometimes the color or how thin it is play a significant role on keeping in touch with your target.
And since some guys recommended games I would say the "untouchables",if you can find it. LOL

Exactly, Unless youre using a Boomslang (and even then its debateable) ball mice cant compete with optical. Precision, accuracy you name it. Now the optical wireless mice on the otherhand lag a bit to much for my tastes to game with them.

The MX700 uses the same optics as the MX500, just that it's wireless, no?

BFG
Strange, I just can't seem to get used to optical mice, I can't quite put my finger on it, but they're just wierd to use for really quick FPS gaming(Quake1 and Doom for example).
Would love to use one since ballmice have their quirks.

Oh well, I've allways been a bit of an oddball(no pun intended) when it comes to these things :)

Try a trackball. thats what i use. small footprint and when you don't want to jiggle the mouse while firing, just take your finger of the trackball.
