Should I just up the FSB, and keep the multiplyer at 11.5? I am using a volcano 7+ on high setting. Should I try for 1600 or not? Thanks. Lian Li PC65 case w/ Samsung PC2700 512mb.

To up the FSB is the easier way to do so, and also would give your whole system better performance since you are not only overclocking your CPU (as you would if you only set to 12x mult). but also your RAM, PCIs, etc.

You have a good system there, good mem, mobo, and cooling; I'm pretty sure your system can hit 1700mhz or more. My XP1700+ runs perfectly at 1727mhz (11x157) and I don't have such good cooling and memory as you do.

Ok right now Im at 11.5 x 138. Why do people unlock the xp's, is it to put the multiplyer up or down? I would think up caz then you can keep the fsb down, is that correct? howd u get your 1700 xp to 1727. Thats amazing! I also have the third line Y core, the AGNGA I believe, or whatever that second line of it is. At what FSB should I just stop going any higher and work on the multiplyer. Whys your multiplyer only at 11? Also, what would setting the voltage do?

Unlock the multiplier to drop it and move the FSB up. Faster FSB means faster read times from your RAM.

Ok well I have the third line Y core, and Im at 11.5x139 right now. Should I go higher? When will I know when to change the voltage. I dont really want to have to. My goal with this is only to get to 2000 xp speeds, if possible. Thanks.

I have an XP 1800+ with a Volcano 7. I can get it up to a 145 MHz FSB on my Abit KR7A-Raid. That is 1667 MHz(XP 2000+). It is perfectly stable at that speed. If I go to 1702 (11.5x148), Windows won't boot. However, for me 1533Mhz is fine and I don't notice any slowdown in framerates in games like Return to Castle Wolfenstein with settings maxed out with my Geforce3.
