Best way to get good picture from computer to t.v

I am going to build myself a computer and instead of using a monitor I am going to connect it to a regular 32" t.v. This computer is not for using the web or doing word processing. I am going to setup a box that is soley for playing movies on this t.v from my computer. I used to do it with my tnt2 ultra card back in the day and it had good quality, but has technology changed since then? I know I will never get the quality I want from a monitor on a t.v, but I am hoping maybe there is something really good out there that can come really close. My budget is not that much.

get a newer card a new cheap one will work that has TV out, I had an old Gforce 256 it did TV out at 800x600, my TI 4600 does it at 1024x768, which is a VAST improvement

if you can get a DVD ddecoder card with an out on it its alot better my old Creative DXR-3 casd has a SWEET tvout that looked amazing, and the creative software woudlplay anything

Since a NTSC TV is only 480i, resolution shouldn't make a difference.

It's all about the encoder chip and type of connection.

If you have the manual for the TV card, check it out. If you don't have it, go to the ATI website and I believe you can download it. When all else fails RTFM.

If it is going to be used for DVD's/VCD's, I personally use a real magic hardware DVD decoder card..No need for any special vidcards and tv output is fantastic, But the downside is that you will still need some sort of monitor hooked to the comp.

I was wondering where did u get the real magic hardware DVD decoder card. and how much did it cost?

Do u use The S-video out?

thx

I use this cable for TV out. I use my PC as a DVD player using WMP 9 and some $15 decoder software. Works like a charm. As far as quality or resolution, I have no complaints.

I never used an s-video to RCA cable before. I wonder if you would notice a difference if u went S-video to S-video?

Right now i am using my radeon 9200np S-video out with a 50ft S-video cable i got at BB for 8 bucks(it was open item) and the picture is ok. My only complaint is that the colors seem washed out compared to my monitor.
i'm very interested in these dvd decoder cards but i am having a hard time finding real info on them.

Google has not been my friend in these past final weeks of college before the finals=(

I bought it a few years ago at a local computer shop. They seem to not carry it anymore, But I'm sure somebody(Maybe Newegg?) still has them. Might also try eBay. No, I never used the S-video out on the card as my bedroom tv did not have the s-vid connector. Had to connect via composite.

I have never seen a component out "consumer" card. SVGA is the best you can get. G

AIW 9700pro/9800pro, NV personal cinema based on 5600, and Leadtek FX5950 ULTRA "WinFast A380 Ultra TDH MyVIVO all come with native YPbPr (component) output. Virtually any radeon, 8500+ can add an adaptor and most cards will work with a transducer (if there drivers support custom timings)

Of course, SD TV's don't accept YPbPr input (some models will have low bandwidth component supporting 480i however) so they are moot🙂 and not cheap.

Virtually any cheap Matrox, Radeon or GF4MX with s-video output should be good. Matrox has DVDmax which is a nice feature (from what I remember) for controlling the output, Radeons have limited configuration, but good quality, and NV cards are OK, but coupled with TVTool even better from what I've heard.

What type of video are you going to output?

HERE

it looks like there is an S-video to component video adpater in that picture.

Would it improve video quality if i got it? On a 36" sony tririntron HD TV?

also, where would i buy one?

thx

Thats the accessories bundle for the Leadtek FX5950 ULTRA WinFast A380 TDH MyVIVO card, since the picture is from Newegg, I'd say you can get it at Newegg and its all free (when you buy the card) for $387.00 it should improve something 🙂

That's not an S-Video to component cable. It's some proprietary plug that can output component, S-Video, and composite from the same plug. Converting S-Video to component wouldn't do you any good just like recording a VHS tape onto DVD isn't going to make it look any better. The easiest way to get good quality TV-Out is to buy a transcoder that will convert VGA or DVI to component or S-Video. They start around $125.
