Best way to get comcast cable internet

What is it? On their their website? What is that $49 "Internet Promo" fee they are trying to charge. That will negate the current $19.99 ofr 3 months special they are having. For those who went with comcast, did you pay any such fee or installation fee?

I was going to switch to comcast since we have comcast cable TV (and currently have RCN internet), figuring there was come kind of combined cable TV + internet type of deal.

Turns out I coulda gotten the first 3 months for $20, but after that would be $50/mo for like 6Mb down and like 512Kb up, when I currently pay $50/mo for 8Mb down and 1Mb up. So I didn't go with them.

But this Friday I get FIOS installed ... 15Mb down, 2Mb up ... and for $45/mo heh. I can't wait!

Who is your provider and where are you located?

I did the comcastoffers thing Dec 30. Check your first bill and verify that the promotion was applied. I had to spend 20 minutes on hold with sales to get them to fix my bill.

I have Time Warner (RoadRunner) and we only get 5Meg down 512 up for $35/mo. We have a deal with the company I work for. Normally it's more like $45-$49/mo or so.

Damn that's cheap. Sucks being stuf with Time Warner sometimes...

I hear ya man. I really wish we had some more cable options in my area. I used to be stuck with TWC when I lived in upstate NY, and now in the DC area I'm stuck with Comcast.

Why the local monopolies? It sucks!

Verizon is the provider and I'm in Maryland.

In DC you can get RCN ... that's what I have and its definitely faster than Comcast. I'm in Maryland right outside of DC and I have a lot of options to choose from as far as high speed internet heh.

Call your local customer service number and tell them you're happy with the service but got an offer (use the Comcast offer or the local DSL pricing as a reference point) to subscribe elsewhere.

Generally, you'll get a competitive offer. At the least, a discounted rate for a few/several months.

another question.. I just signed up for basic cable so that I can sign up for the broadband as a cable subscriber. Can I still go ahead and sign up as a sibscriber even though my cable has not been installed yet? The online chat person told me (on comcast's site, that I can only sign for it at the same time or only after the install

Stands to reason that you should be able to, yes, but who knows. Given my past experience with Comcast (and to be honest, every other cable company I've ever had), chances are they won't let you just because they can. One of the benefits to their not having any competition to worry about.
