I was (unpleasantly) suprised, almost twenty years ago, how EASY it is to destroy a floppy with a bit of water!

A friend had loaned me a floppy with Lotus 123 or some other high-value product on it. I was washing my hands and the floppy fell into the sink. I immediately wiped and blew it dry, but the disk media itself kinda' WARPED! It was no longer readable!

Since the disk media is plastic, I was a bit suprised that it was so badly damaged by a few seconds exposure to water. My friend wasn't happy about it, either. 🙁

I have to agree. 🙁

Burning them might be easiest (although, as noted, probably very environmentally unfriendly).

Putting them through an industrial-strength shredder (after removing the sliding metal cover) would also work.

Very easy. In all seriousness, buy a Neodymium magnet. These are the types used in hard drive cleaners and degaussers.

Scroll down to the super magnets. However those would be overkill. (You probably won't even be able to pull the floppys off if it stuck on it).

To give you an idea about how powerful these are, the super magnets they are selling are grade N45. I got a chance to play with some grade N30's back in HS. These are 30% weaker then the N45's, but were able to stick two 2" together to the point where me and a friend spent an hour trying to rip them apart. We got close to the point where as it came off it went back together to smash two of my figers, wherein another friend came and help us wrestle it off. This left a bruise on both fingers that swelled up to the size of large cherries. It was extremely painful.

I pity the poor soul who had to measure out the first buttload of floppies ... 300 to 400 ... OUCH! :Q

Oh and wouldn't soaking them in a tub of salt water work a number on them.
 
Install a microwave quite a long way from any building - with elctrical power supplied either by a generator or long extension cable.

Soak disks in petrol (gas I believe) and deposit in microwave.

Turn on high for 5 minutes and run fast.

Fool proof way of destroying just about anything. Also film it and show us.

nah man, u do it the pimp way duuuude.. u be doin it likz that an u be good to. anewy try to be doin it tight, like puts it into som1s trash and den burn it,.. like dre said "what what burn" burn it bad then dont tuch it couz its hot cuz. dont be like me cuz he burned it phat his arm. peace out duuuuude

Fling them like chinese stars at animals in your back yard. Or, you could put them in the microwave. 🙂
 
1) put them in your bathtub
2) fill bathtub with water
3) plug radio into socket and turn it on
4) Drop radio into bathtub
 
Buttload=300 floppy.... whose butt? Yours? :Q What exactly ARE you doing with your butt? 😀

I recommend acid...Hydrocloric, Sulphuric...it's all the same...

Also a good idea. My dad brought home a box of floppies from where he worked - old stuff just out for the trash. I installed a second floppy drive into my PC and wrote a little batch file to format one after another. Breezed through them fairly quickly.
And, if they fail one by one, format it again if you can, and just stump the floppy under your shoe and toss it.
 
I don't remember, I think I read someone say "shoot them", maybe not, too lazy to go back and look. But if ur gonna do that, do it right. 12 guage shotgun, 20 or 30 at a time, point blank range. Trust me, you won't even have much debri left to clean up. 😛
 
i havent read through the entire thread, so this may have already been posted, but stack them up, and drill holes in them?
