Hi everyone,
There is this abandoned bike near me that really kicks butt, and the thing has not moved in over a year. The thing is starting to rust and the tires are rotting off, ect. Anyways, it has a Sears brand U shaped bike lock on it. A Dremel tool can cut the lock off but it takes time and is noisy. Do any of you know an easy way to get the lock off?

The rust is superficial, and it is damn nice, dual shocks, that funky bike frame for the rear shock (bike can flex in the middle!) it's 21 speed and has all Shimano components.

the ulocks are really hard to break off.
get some liquid nitrogen from a lab around your school (they should all have it). carry the damn big drummel that they keep the stuff in over to the bike and pour it all over the lock.
then shibang, kick the lock off ;)

damn i'm smart

liquid N is not practical to transport.

Dry ice & rubbing alcohol will generate enough cold to make the lock brittle + Hammer & sharp cold chisel.

strap about 1/4 lb of C4 to where the lock joins, set the fuse and run.

A good set of bolt croppers can cut a U-lock.

The security staff at 'school' do it all the time, when some fool U-locks their bike to some railings where it caues an obstruction.

For the very toughest locks they use an oxy-acetylene torch.

Slip a utility worker $20 and have him use a pair of wire cutters to get it off. When I say wire cutter I mean its a big mofo. Dad got a set from one an dthe thing is like 5ft long and weighs about 30lbs. The sucker has enough torque to cut off someone's arm.

EDIT: DAMN. MARKR GOT THERE BEFORE ME!!!!

MarkR is right, a pair of 30 or 36 inch bolt cutters should do the trick, done it before myself. Also a car jack stuck in there could help snap it open.

A nuclear missile would destroy the lock. It is advised that you stand back and do not look directly at the blast, however.

I heard that you can put an car jack (small ones that open out) in between the U and then open it up. That should break it easily.

Maybe the nice bike is police bait for bike thieves :)

I agree with the wire cutter deal, but a chainsaw might do the trick ..
