Best way to cook steak without a grill or broiler?

I bought some steaks that were on sale, and now I have to figure out how to cook them (they've been sitting in the fridge for 3 days).

My oven has no broiler, and I don't have a grill... all I have is an oven and a small george forman grill which probably won't fit the steaks.

Can anyone recommend a good cooking technique for the steaks (in the oven or on the stove)? My options are, unfortunately, quite limited.

You don't need a broiler to cook steak. Take it out of the package, wash it, add seasonings, dump a whole bunch of BBQ/steak sauce on it, plus extra to coat the dish, and cook it at 400 for an hour or so.

The steaks are too big for the one I have. :( Should I cut them in half so they'll fit?

Thanks melly... do I put the steaks on a plan metal cookie sheet, or in a glass casserole dish?

(I've never cooked steak in my life)

You won't need an hour at 400. Maybe 25 minutes for well done. Put it on a cookie sheet (or broiler pan if you have one) season it and cook it at 400 till done to your liking.

Not for an hour, but in general, the right principal.

I'd do 450 for the first 3 mins or so per side with the rack at the topmost position. Then drop it down to 375 or so for 20 mins and check the steak. Dont forget to turn it. The trick is to sear in the juices and flavoring with high heat, and then cook it to your liking with medium heat.

do you have a wok or a frying pan?

just cut the steak in to small strips and stir fry it in olive oil. throw in some soy sauce and a little lemon juice. you can add onions, broccoli, peppers. add some crushed red peppers for spiciness.

There has been a lot of bad steak advice thrown around on this forum, but that is absolutely the worst I've heard yet. I really really hope it's a joke and my sarcasm meter is off today.

Tomato:
This is all you need to know. You can adjust cooking time depending on the size/thickness of the steak.

I use my cast iron skillet for this.

30 seconds each side on high heat on the stove top.

then toss the whole thing into a 500 degree oven at 2 min each side.

should come out great and med rare.

That sounds delicious, thanks. I like my steak medium rare or medium, and definitely juicy.

Maybe I just cook really thick steaks which we eat well done, but mine has turned out absolutely fine following this method. Us Canadians use different temps and we have a really old stove. Tomato, use a glass (Pyrex) dish but no not a metal sheet :p

cooking it in the frying pan (preferably cast iron skillet) will yield better results.

Pan sear it on both sides. 2 minutes each.

Then, put in 500 degree oven for 5 minutes. Pull out, cover pan with foil, and let sit for 10 minutes. Serve.
